Does a purse count as a carry-on when boarding planes?

I was told one carry on, I have a carry on, and a backpack. Is my backpack not like a purse?

probably depends on the size

It's a carry on and then a personal item. Should be able to do little suitcase and backpack

You get one carry on and one personal item like a purse or backpack.

you can have a backpack and a carry on.

you can have a backpack along with your carry on.

Nope it doesn't but your backpack does strangely enough. Maybe wear it like a manpurse and you can claim it's a "purse".

I flew a couple of weeks ago with a carry on bag and a backpack. They made me VIP check the carry on but that was probably because the plane was freaking tiny.

I have never gotten stopped for a backpack as my "personal item". But I believe technically your personal item is supposed to fit under the seat, not in the overhead bin, so if it's an especially full flight and your backpack is obviously large, I can see someone telling you something about it.

One carry on, one personal item that must fit under the seat.
Your backpack is a child stamp. Grow the frick up.

I always carry a backpack and a carry on. I put all my travel docs and tablets and cameras in there.. then my wife gets ahold of it and stuffs the ever living shite out of it. Nobody has ever said anything to me. Always goes under seat.

As long as it fits under your seat.

I have never had them count my backpack as a carry on.

I love a backpack when I travel. I have one specifically designed to hold a laptop and It is so much easier on my back when running through airports.
I guess that makes me a child though.

You can have a personal item and a carryon - the carryon must fit in the overhead compartment or be gate checked. The personal item is generally limited to being able to fit in the seat below, although some people cheat and put them in the overhead bins as well.
