Pool owners in Greater Baton Rouge

Size and shape have already been created. On paper. We had this professionally done.
Pricing has varied greatly by 3 different contractors. In one case, as much of a $12K difference for an apples-to-apples comparison. It is my understanding that whatever the true cost to build a pool is usually doubled by pool contractor.
Anything I should make myself more aware about before we go about digging in our backyard? Aside from the obvious of don't do it.
Great contractor recommendations? And who to stay away from?

Brad Keller with Keller pools, GW Oliver, and Russell Pools are all good.

How much does a normal underground pool generally run?

Plenty of variables. We have received quotes that have varied greatly, even though we haven't changed what we are asking for.
First post should have read with a variance of $22K, not $12K.

Don't do it
The most wise words in this thread.
If your SO is insisting, man-up and put your foot down. No means no. Take her to Paris and Tahiti twice with the construction money.
Take her to the Caribbean every other year with the money not spent on pool service and chemicals and additional insurance. Plus you have removed the never ceasing worry of having a water-filled hole in your backyard for pets and children to drown in.

Besides the variance. What is the general size and quote range?

Don't worry about calling LA One call. That's just bullshite propaganda. It's your yard you should just dig shite where and when you want to. Rent a backhoe and go for it.

Build a replica of the cottages or woodlands pool

My parents put a pool in and then the next year installed a heater. We use that thing 10 months a year now. The kids love it. I don't know what we would do without it. We have a neighborhood pool but it's so much better going over there and having whatever music/game we want on the outdoor speakers and my mom always makes us sammiches.

I have three phase 220v buried and running across my backyard. The casual observer would not know this.
Tread lightly with electricity; get the fellow from One Call to do a walk around of the perimeter in your backyard. They don't have to do it but most of them will if asked.

I was being sarcastic.
I had a sewer guy one time go and put in two mechanical systems at a few of my spec houses without telling me he was going that day. He had done like 50 of them for me by that time so it was no big deal he if he didn't usually tell me but the only difference was these houses had a small pipeline in the front yard so we were going to have to put in a sprinkler sewer system in instead of one that flowed to the ditch. It was my subdivision that I had already built 14 houses in so he never called One Call because he knew where everything was anyway...or so he thought. It was a new section of the subdivision we hadn't built on yet.
Needless to say I got a call from the pipeline company one morning after they noticed the systems had already been put in and informed me that we were going to have to dig it up with them on site and if we got within 18 inches of the pipeline we were going to have to pay for them to shut it down long enough to inspect it for any scratches out of fear of rust. It would have basically cost me about $250K if so.
Thankfully he didn't get close enough and thankfully it was my exes step father that was head of that pipeline and he let me off easy.
I learned that day that we call One Call no matter what.

Mine was free "came with the house". I spend about $300 year on chemicals. Probably a few hundred in electricity. Not going to Caribbean on $500 bucks. Plus it is year round enjoyment as i never shut it down...we enjoy the waterfall and ambiance all year.
