Yeah we seriously are boned if a real big player takes aim at earth. Might as well find the spot it will hit, go Lay out a hammic, open a corona and try to catch it.

I saw that movie. Bruce Willis died in it.

Affleck should have taken the fall, Harry Stamper deserved to come back and hop in a bubble bath with all of Rock Hound's Russian babies.

Best line in the movie: "Because I'm a frickin' genius."

They said it would only be the effect of an H bomb

Second best: why do I do this? Because the money is good, the scenery changes, and they let me use explosives, ok?!

It's the "only found it 6 weeks ago" part that concerns me.

I read somewhere that NASA is planning to "corral" one of these near earth asteroids in the near future and put it in orbit around the moon. Then send astronauts up to play around on it. This will do two things, demonstrate the ability to change an asteroid's trajectory and practice mining on an asteroid. It's NASA though so I'm sure they'll frick it up.

We'd nuke that shite if it were coming here.

This was so much better when we didn't know.

I find this hard to believe. Something that big traveling at 30,000+ mph, it seems would impart a lot more energy than a single H bomb.

I'm getting déjà vu. Was something like this posted on the ot before a few years ago?

NASA is wrong I guess

No, but the chick who wrote the article is.
Largest nuclear test so far is 50 megatons by the Russians (wiki).
This asteroid would be 2,000 megatons (per wiki again).
So this would equal 40 of the largest H bombs ever built.

Which is why we need to stop putting money into bullshite like fighting drugs/gay marriage and start putting it towards space exploration along with figuring out a plan for if we ever need to escape this giant rock.
