I only remember him from the cartoon, but don't really see me caring about a solo Gambit flick. This sounds like a move they're doing just to get Tatum to take the role.

I like him but I don't think he'd work in a solo movie.

Not at all. Not enough depth and Channing Tatum isn't the answer.

Honestly, the only other X-Men I think that works as a solo movie is Magneto. I'd shell out cash just to watch Magneto hunt down Nazis for an hour and a half to 2 hours.

There are other characters that could, but Gambit isn't one if them.

Look at the how Wolverine has struggled. Easily the most popular Xman.

The problem with X-Men is that so few of them work on their own. They all require a team.

You have Weapon X and Wolverine, but outside of their origin stories, they work on one team or another.

I think a Weapon X movie could be cool though.

One of my favorites

But I know he can't carry a whole 2 hour film on his own.

But with Channing Tatum taking on the role, he may bring enough star power to the role to get a film.

I'm curious about Tatum in that role. I just hope he doesn't try a Cajun accent. He just needs to go natural.

Do they really need star power at this point? I think we've proven with a good script you're sitting on a gold mine as it is.

I think the story/character of Gambit can absolutely carry a movie.

I think Tatum is a disastrous choice and ensures that the movie will suck and waste awesome source material.

Gambit is definitely interesting enough of a character to carry a movie if done right.

Sure. They make worse movies every year.

Whoever cast him doesn't realize that these characters tend to be deep. Their weaknesses were just as relevant as their powers. I don't see CT being very deep.

Based on the comics in the 80's, Storm as a character could potentially, but the movies have reduced her to a pretty one-dimensional role. In the books, circa 165 on through past 200 and when she lost her powers, she was a pretty complex and central figure, ranging from earth goddess to mohawked psycho badass killer. Nightcrawler was another one. But I digress.

Halle Berry is awful as Storm so that's another problem with her.

Gambit has one of the most interesting back stories. He could absolutely have a successful stand alone movie. You could argue that not enough people are familiar with him but I think at this point people will see anything with Marvel's name attached to it. Guardians of the Galaxy is a perfect example if it does well.

The whole storm growing up and her back story of where she grew up could be a stand alone movie.

There really is only a handful

Iceman-would need to go with the Spider-Man route when they hung out and fought together and when spider man got rejected as an x men because he got his powers from a spider and wasn't a mutant.

Storm
Magneto
Bishop/cable
Rogue if they go the route of mystique as her mother and go from there
Xavier/dreadknot as brothers

Clearly I'm referring to the late 80's to mid 90's era of the men so my knowledge is somewhat limited as I quit paying attention once I got in high school-college.

Gambit has a really great origin.

I don't know that he is popular enough to garner the attention he deserves.
