Skip the non-answers like "i'll be cremated/in the ground/your moms house/etc".

My family has a large plot in our local cemetary in my hometown. My grandparents on dad's side, dad, and both his brothers are all buried there. My mom will undoubtedly be there as well when her time comes. So obviously the "plan" I guess is for me to be there too.

I'm currently single in my 20s with no family yet, but at what point do people reevaluate this process? I would obviously like to be buried by my future wife, along with our future kids (yes, I know I'll be gone before them [hopefully]). Would I be a total dick to not use the family plot? But at the same time, what's the cutoff? I mean, if me and my wife are there too, when does the line stop?

For people with a similar situation, when you ended up getting older and having a family of your own, did you start looking into getting your own plot for "your" family?

I don't know yet, but I am only 28, and with advances in modern science, and my high level of income, I have 217, maybe 272 years to figure it out.

Maybe Mars.

I'm not worried about it, just started thinking about it randomly at lunch today. I'm not about to go start making arrangements or anything.

Some sprinkled in the lake I grew up on, some in Epcot, the rest at the Prop Stop in a 4th of July firework.

This is a well thought out plan.

Mixing the ashes with fireworks is a great idea.

Idea is, cremation, with a small part of DNA encapsulated and shot into space so that billions of years from now there is a chance that my DNA will land on a viable planet and life will be generate from me, and will eventually evolve to be of my likeness.

Your birth family (parents, grandparents, uncles/aunts, etc) or the family you start (wife, kids)?

Same, I think we still have about 10 empty plots left, three generations of my family already rest there. One will be my grandmother, two for my parents, so that leaves 7ish for my family, and my brothers family. Eventually I plan to buy more plots for the later generations, but not until much later in life.
