yep...literally just dealt with this exact same scenario a couple of weeks ago. Basically told the woman who fired said employee to grow a pair and call the person. She dumped in on to HR and they got the password. I then told my boss in the future we need to put in to our paperwork that any company provided phone that has an access key/lock code must be provided to IT.

Do you need to access it or can you just factory reset it for another employee to use?

Is the former employee not answering, or are they refusing to give you the code?

That's really fishy. Do you think there might be something criminal on the phone?

Also, if it belongs to the company, then just take it to the Apple Store.

1.Turn off your device. If you can't turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time and wait a few seconds for it to turn off.
2.Plug the device's USB cable into your computer only.
3.Hold down the device's Home button as you connect the USB cable to it.
4.When you see the Connect to iTunes screen, release the Home button.

iTunes should open and display a message such as: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."

No need to restore if its going to a new employee.
