Every tournament there seems to be one particular boot that is the choice of half the players in the field. Behold the Nike Magista

Is it a sock? Is it a shoe? Is it ugly? Well that one's a yes anyway. It looks like somebody stuck their foot in a tennis ball. When I was playing I wore Copa Mundials. wtf happened?

Most are pretty damn light these days I think. I have no idea what the ankle thing is all about though.

I guess to act as ankle tape. Regardless, it looks dumb.

Not fashion forward. Boot makers, and brands of a side or selection, are trying to avoid players placing ergonomic socks over their stirrups. Nothing more.

ETA Haven´t yáll seen some white just above the ankle? Happens a lot. This is the reason.

Companies got smart and realized there's no money to be made on a low markup boot that hasn't changed in 30 years and doesn't stand out on the pitch.

Love Copas, BTW. Hate most of the new day-glo stuff but that's how it is now.

I thought that was just ankle tape to keep shin guards from sliding down.

It's to increase agility and explosiveness by making the shoe and foot work in unison.

At least that's what Nike says. The shoe I mean.

eta: It's now banned but you used to see players wearing a white Trusox and cutting the foot off their team sock. Now they make colored Trusox so you don't see the white part anymore. Tape also must match sock color now.

No, they have been wearing special socks (I believe there are two brands).

This boot isn't going to stop that, I don't think.

I've seen a lot of players wearing these already. I think Dempsey wears them, and maybe Bradley too.

Dempsey wears the Hypervenom. Unless he changed recently. Bradley does wear the Magista.

The Magista is basically the successor to the CTR360 and Iniesta is still the main face and it's still marketed towards center mids, so I don't know why they made a whole new silo.

At least, cover them up, that is the intention.
