Some buddies and I were discussing Kapernick's new contract and we got around to Bobby. Long story short, my opinion is that Bobby was a middle of the pack, top 15 QB in his era. The troll of the group claims Bobby was not, just a terrible player who couldn't capitalize even with the best defense in the league for a few years. Give us some wisdom.

He still plays in the league to this day. Goes by the name Tony Romo.

He was at best a top 15 QB...probably closer to top 20.

But, he made few mistakes and was a true game manager.

True story: He was actually sober while playing.

No, I'm just kidding.

Vastly overshadowed by the insane talent at QB at that time. No matter who we had, we weren't going to outgun SF in the NFC Western Division, and the only times we beat them it was all defense. Also, you looked around the league and you had Troy Aikman, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Warren Moon, John Elway. A lot of that temperament is tied to the futility of the situation. For what it's worth though, I think he was a pretty good QB and, to repeat the above statement, a good game manager that competed by reducing his errors.

Fixed due to error, thanks.

I think that Carl Smith and Mora's brain farts in the playoffs (PLAYOFFS!!) did more to hold the Saints back than Hebert did.

His reputation is hugely (negatively) impacted by the home playoff loss to the Eagles, when the Saints had a 10 point lead at the start of the 4th. Couple that with Carl Smith's unimaginative offense, and Hebert is not fondly remembered by most who saw him play with the Saints.

You can put a bow tie on a turd. Its still a turd.
In this case concerning your OP Bobby is the bow tie.
Carl(thirdandlong)Smith is the turd.

Hope that helps.

Romo is much better than Bobby ever was. Romo's a very good QB who chokes. Bobby was average.

I don't think that's true at all.

Da fuq? Dude, he was my hero and my QB when I was a kid molding my Saints fandom. How dare you. I have a signed Hebert jersey in a case on my office wall. True story.
