6:30 to be safe. I've done BR to Houston in 3 1/2 hours on a Sat morning several times going to Ikea.

Depends on how fast you drive and how bad traffic is. If you don't want to be late, I would plan on 5 hours. You may make it in 4 if you drive 80 and there is little traffic.

6:30 would be cutting it close. I'd probably allow a little more time for traffic congestion.

Leave now, BR traffic, I-10 in LC is under construction (was last time I went through,) and Houston traffic sucks.

There is absolutely no way unless you drive like the biggest a-hole on the face of the planet.

I'd leave by 6 at the latest, just to be safe. If you're early you can always find a spot to get some coffee or an early lunch. Usually that should take about 4 hours, but one wreck in the wrong place could throw that off big time.

Actually Houston will be the least of his worries considering he'll be here around 10-11. I'd be more worried about Lake Chuck and Bmont.

I've done it plenty of times without driving like an a-hole.

Leave at 0500 and you are good to go. Biggest issue may be Beaumont.

I was thinking 5:30 but this would definitely work.

Don't go through Beaumont.

At the 873 exit in Orange head to Bridge City/Port Arthur...take Hwy 73 to Winnie. It is 5 minutes longer with no traffic...if there is traffic in Beaumont it could save you an hour or more.

I would leave at 6am.

No you haven't. Baton Rouge to IKEA on I-10 is 273 miles. You would have to drive at a clip of 78 MPH the entire way. If you average driving 78 MPH the entire way from Baton Rouge to Houston you are driving like an a-hole.

This is a drive I have made back and forth about 75 times in the last 5 years. So 150 total trips.

So driving 78 is driving like an a-hole on I-10. Then the whole population that drives I-10 is an a-hole then except for the few old folks..

Making it into the Houston metro area in 3.5 hours is no biggie. Making it all the way into the city and past downtown to IKEA in 3.5 hours...

Averaging for 273 miles?? Yes it is. I'm sorry, I don't think the entire population on I10 is clipping over the Basin bridge at 78 MPH. No time I have ever gone over it anyway.
