Good deal?

Looking for something to put on my 270. Thoughts?

How long have you been shopping? Scopes can be had for really good deals if you are patient.

If I were buying today, I would spend $299 on a vx-II and be done with it.

I have that scope on my 270 WSM. I think it's a great scope.

Not long. I just came across this by chance. I currently have a Simmons 3-9x40 on the gun but I've been thinking of upgrading to a better scope b/c I have a hard time seeing close to dark.

That's the biggest difference between a scope and a good scope. They all shoot straight and sight in, mostly lol, but the good ones gather a lot of light and give you an extra couple of minutes at dark.

So if only target shooting (AR) do I really need an awesome scope? Legit question.

I'm not the scope guru, but I would say it depends on what you need.

I like having a deer scope on an AR, because to me it is just a semi auto .223 that will reach out there and touch something.

I never like the non magnified red dot holograph sights, but I don't shoot close range. I know why our soldiers love them in urban settings though... so it depends on what you want to do with the gun.

nope

Most target shooting is close range with an AR. I ended up taking my scope off because tactical courses seldom have a long shot.

A good AR will group long range, but the wind will eat it alive. If you are looking to shoot longer ranges, I would beef up the cartrige.

I bought the exact same scope for the same price but it was from a local FFL. Not sure 159 is all that great when you gotta pay shipping and all.

Forever,
That's a good scope. OTOH, I'm not sure it's a great price. Check prices on Optics Planet, Mid South Shooters Supply and Natchez Shooters Supply. Natchez also has factory refurbished Nikons. I've bought 3 or 4 refurbs from them through the years and have been very happy. If it were me shooting a 3-9X, I don't think I'd bother w/ a bullet drop reticle. I'd think about it w/ a 4-12X or higher.

I called and verified that this particular scope is brand new and not a refurb.
