I got into a conversation yesterday about this. This particular person seemed to think that the signing of Goody was a clear indication that the staff wanted to upgrade the position, and that Goody would be the starter this year.

I agreed that we wanted to upgrade the position, and we did, but Golic was the one waived, and Goody is definitely an upgrade over him. I don't think the signing of Goody is any reflection at all of what the staff thinks of Lelito. I think this was the plan all along, and while I haven't seen the figures, I'm sure he's not much of a cap hit this year, so it only makes sense.

So while I think there's a good chance Goodwin could start, I still think Lelito get's first crack at it. The media get's access to the 3rd day of this OTA session, so we'll see who's lining up with the first team then.

I'm just glad we have more depth now.

I was a bit worried tbh

If they didn't think Lelito would be the starter I see them being more aggressive in FA's and the draft.
I see Goody as a mentor and a fall back position/depth.

Yeah I'm thinking they want Lelito to take it over long term and will give him the chance, but just in case he starts Charlie Browning it, we have Goody waiting right behind him so we're not throwing in another undrafted FA in Armstrong.

I'm hoping Lelito nails it down.

Saw Payton on Monday and he told me Lelito would start with Goodwin as depth.

I agree with what's already been said. They seem to be very high on Lelito, so I think they'll give him every opportunity to start. But Goodwin is a great backup plan in case Lelito just isn't ready. Goodwin knows the team and the system and can mentor/coach Lelito no matter who starts.

I heard some people yesterday saying that Lelito isn't a quality start, and he's dlp level at best. How can you say that either way?

I think Goodwin starts and Lelito is backup C/G.

This honestly makes the most sense to me, I think Lelito would benefit from playing the same role that he did last year, but the fact that Goody signed a one-year deal makes me think he's in just for the sake of mentoring.

Either way, leagues fricked.

I don't think we can really say anything either way. We've seen Lelito start 2 games last year and it's been a few years since Goodwin's been in a Saints uni. We'll get a better idea after day 3 of OTA's when the media will be invited and tell us who is running with the first team.

My guess is that we want Lelito to be our future and from what I've read, the front office and coaching staff are high on him. So I think he gets his shot.

I think CSP knows we are primed for a Super Bowl run and will play the better player. If all things are equal i'd guess Lelito gets the nod.

If Lelito doesn't start, I'm 99.9% certain the coaching staff would be extremely disappointed. No team tries to get older....they try to get younger.

Just talked to Lelito and he said this thread is stupid. He also thinks Orly is a closet homo.
