Gas Appliances in the South?

I feel like gas appliances (ovens/dryers/etc.) aren't very common in the South. Is there a reason most homes don't have gas lines, or is this a changing statistic?

best money i ever spent was to 'wire up' gas to my washroom, stove, fireplace, HVAC and water heater.
you cant beat natural gas.

Traditionally more spread out and more rural and its easier/cheaper to run power lines vs gas lines.

Living in CO, it's almost impossible to find a home without gas hookups and service. I can't remember a single home having gas in Louisiana.

I refused to look at houses without natural gas heater, range, and water heaters.

The south is very rural, so its harder to find natural gas lines.

Gas appliances used to be more common when I was younger. At least in my family.

They use it more for heating.

My home has gas. As does every house in my neighborhood. Most older homes will.

why? you can run gas to all those places for probably $1k and then slowly buy appliances.

Where I live everyone has gas ran to their home. Cross the Atchafalaya and everyone has propane tanks in their yard.

I didn't want to buy them all immediately?

Around the 1970's most homes were going "all-electric". Two of my rental houses were built then and neither has gas service.

you dont have to. phase them in over time as you find the perfect unit.

Good backup for heat if electricity goes out.

What do you mean "run gas"? If there's not a line by your house, doesn't seem like that's an option?
