Why break the law and risk impeachment to cover VA and EPA scandals?

Releasing 5 terrorists without consulting Congress could get him in more trouble than the VA and EPA scandals combined.
Why risk it?
Surely he and his team anticipated that Congress and the media would realize that he broke the law and that could be an impeachable offense.
Doesn't make sense to me.

You make a good point but I don't believe Obama fears the possibility of impeachment.

He doesn't. As much as he warrants it, it would be political suicide for the GOP to pursue it right now (although, this deserter for terrorist swap is a little more serious than "lying about sex" [I know that is not what Clinton's was about, but that was the public's perception]).

Two things.
1)I think it's fairly well established that short of committing a dead on felony, no President in modern times is going to be impeached again
and/or
2)Even if impeached, it is DAMNED certain that no President short of committing a dead on felony is going to get conviceted in the Senate.

I think that for the most part, history shows that each new President in fact DOES do new stuff. Each basically piles on what his predecessor did without stopping the shite the predecessor did. Oh, they run their mouths about how bad the stuff the predecessor did BEFORE getting elected. But, the moment they are elected, the power they previously thought was abused becomes theirs and the LOVE it!
And, this will not stop with Obama. Whomever the next guy/gal is will do the same and why not? They can reliably expect that no matter what they do, their "team" will defend it and cite what the last guy did as making it OK.
It's like we're a nation of teenagers all saying, "but everyone else does it......"
