My younger sister is in Europe for a month on her senior trip, and since calling overseas is $1/min, I looked suggested to my parents either Tango or Skype. Tango is pretty damn easy to use, but does get a little choppy when one of the parties moves around a lot. Haven't tried Skype on mobile. My sister has iOS, and I have Android, and it works pretty well.

My parents do not have smart phones, so I will be setting up something through their webcam, so PC to iOS. I am guessing Tango will be the way to go? Does Skype support MMS like Tango? Is Skype free like Tango? Does it work that well? Is it as easy to use and how is the connection?

Lastly, I couldn't find an answer, but what if I have Tango installed on my PC and my sister calls me? Will it route through both and they will ring? Go to my phone or PC only?

Tango has no contact info, so I cannot find this stuff out

Thanks TuBerculosis

I don't know anything about Tango, but Skype will do everything you want. It is free. And, just like any other, it completely depends on your internet connection as to how choppy the feed is.

Well, the Tango app automatically pulls the numbers from your phone book and ones who have the app show up at the top of the list. Just about as simple as it gets.

On a PC, you just type in your mobile # and it works when someone video calls, texts, or MMSs you.

My parents have 6MBps at home, and my sister is going to be stuck using whatever the hotel she is at has

I tried tango last night. I haven't used it in about a year. I was amazed at the quality. It did not freeze as much anymore. I wonder how hangouts is compared to it?

I've only texted through hangouts on my PC, but it was a PITA getting connected to someone through that

Hangouts does all of that as well.

I still use AirDroid separately for text, find my phone, accessing files/media on my phone very easily. etc.

I didn't find it as easy as Tango though. Gonna just set up both later and see which one works best

Gotcha. Like I said, I was already heavy in the google infrastructure so it was already "setup" when I decided to start using it.
