Only plan to use it for a year. What should I get? Should I get it off ebay?

I like Linksys (Cisco). Ebay should be fine, just research the seller's feedback as much as you can.

I'm just curious, why only a year? Are you leaving the country then? Buy a good router now (one with A/C speed) and it will last for years and you can use it anywhere.

Anyway, for 20 bucks, this would be just fine:

Wireless Router

Don't do it!

get a wireless A/C router. instantly faster than others. less interference from things like garage doors etc etc... and most of them are capable of MUCH faster speeds than any carrier can provide atm.

I agree. I use an A/C router and my MacBook Air has really high transfer rates. Works great. Most older wireless devices and smartphones don't have A/C yet, but I'm sure it will become standard eventually.

My wife is moving to Boston for a year for her fellowship so I need to set up something over there that I won't mind trashing after a year. I bought an ASUS wireless router last year for my place and love it. She is not getting the ASUS.

Buy the refurbished one I linked to for 20 bucks off of eBay. You won't find a much better deal and it should work just fine.

It's pretty ridiculous that people recommended hardware without actually asking what devices will be connected to the router, how many at the same time, how many people will use it, etc. The AC recommendations are hilarious.

Is your wife just using a laptop? What model?

This is likely the correct advice. If one person/ 1-2 devices connected, that router is still overkill

Talking about buying a router for a woman. It will only be used for her Macbook Air and iphone. She doesn't download anything and will probably just stream tv shows, skype, and look at US Weekly or some other worthless shite. Nothing too crazy

I will probably buy that router. Thanks for the link!

There you go. Don't spend more than 20 bucks.

No problem! It will work great for what she is doing (like a previous poster said, it could actually handle more). 20 bucks is a great deal.
