I was at the game. I get the long argue of the call, but what was going on with the ncaa official and the umps going under the stadium?

I was there too

Apparently they were reviewing the rules, not the play

Houston coach put the game under official protest so they had to meet with the chief of umpires and the NCAA to discuss the ground rules. Apparently the Houston staff didn't pay attention in the ground rules meeting or didn't relay it to the team.

Post-game radio said the protest was disallowed?

I'm assuming the ground rule double rule wasnt fully understood by the coach.

The wait did seem excessive though

Yeah. Apparently they all decided that Houston didn't pay attention to the ground rules

Obviously, the Houston HC missed the ground rule that said a groundskeeper may kick the ball out from under the fence to unlodge it. But after his initial long argument, he went back into the dugout & was shown talking with an assistant & he then came back out & apparently filed his protest. Why did the NCAA official have to leave the field to make a decision?

Yeah, that's not what happened at all.

From what hanagriff said on the radio if an official protest is filed in an NCAA tourney game they stop the game and look at replay and either allow or disallow the protest right then and there. In this case it was disallowed once they looked at replay . Don't know if that really is how it works but. That's what he said.

The Houston Coach protested the game.

WHICH MEANT ---

The NCAA officials got together and reviewed the play and the ground rules.

Call on the field was upheld.

As a result, the protest was dissallowed.

What would have happened if their protest was allowed and they still won? Would they still have to replay the game from that point or would they be able to withdraw their protest?

Basically the protest was the Houston coach's way of challenging the ruling on the field. Had replay deemed he was correct the call wouldve been reversed and hale back to third Moore back to second. Since they deemed the call right they just played on. But the only way for it to be reviewed at all was to file a protest.
