We are in the wiring phase of the house we are building and the builder is asking about a security system. It would be cheaper to have it wired before the interior walls go up, but I've been thinking about going with a wireless system (SimpliSafe). Any advise/opinion would be appreciated.

I've never built a house but if think the small cost of extra wiring is better than the headache in the future.. That's just my $0.02

Get cameras. Best investment. Won't stop problems but damn sure will solve them.

Also, definitely get some type of alarm system hard wired. No need to monitored. Wasted money.

Run the wire. Whether you use it or not, it will give you options.

Is the security an add-on at additional cost? Some security shops offer free install, so the problems are theirs. What's it really gonna cost to finance the additional cost over the term of the mortgage? Course if you're an OT baller, that's not an issue.

if at all possible go wired always.....system and phone..... thank me later......small amount for a phone line each month for peace of mind....just think how many times ur cell phone drops calls or doesnt have a signal and i own a company here in town and sell a good bit of cell backups....i just dont trust them as a primary and only form of dialing out...but when everything goes down you just about always have an att dial tone.....and if you have a generator to power alarm during an extended outage you will have monitoring....and in 30+ years we have been open we have had 1 buisness phone line cut... far out weighs the chance of cell service working...just my .02.....

My understanding is that it would be done by the security company, not the builder...which would involve a 3 year contract.

Wire camera system now. Simplisafe is fine but wired is better.

The only reason for simpli is because who wants to drill holes. Buy a system online or call that place in industriplex.

Go wired and don't let your building do it. He will just mark it up. Get in touch with a local alarm company with no contract. Pay for the install and equipment up front and monitoring won't be over $20 bucks a month. Total cost won't be more than $2000.

If still building, have all exterior doors open OUT and no windows in the garage doors. Metal frame for all exterior doors too.
