Let's talk Sonos or other wifi speakers

Have you used them?

I am worried about if it will be complicated for me to sync the speakers like I want to. Nothing complicated, but at times I will change the source for each speaker. Maybe even take a speaker somewhere other than the house.

Is it that easy as it sounds on the website? All controlled from my phone?

It is that easy. I have several connect amps I will be running on in ceiling speakers in my new house. I ran them at my last house on some speakers around the house. I have not run them off a TV yet so I cant comment on that but I plan to do this in the new place. I can use my phone or ipads or laptops. I am also going to use there soundbar and sub with 2 rear in ceiling speakers off a connect amp for a 5.1 in my master bedroom. Tons of streaming content...and can also tap into your NAS for your own music...but with whats available streaming wise I see almost no need....

You do need to have wifi coverage wherever you plan to use it. You hook your NAS to your network and you can access the files with out having to be wired to the NAS. You can play tons of streaming services and also locale radio stations. You will need a sonos bridge to plug into your router than your good to go with the rest of the stuff. You can not take it from your house and play it else ware tho...unless you bring the bridge with you and plug into a network.

Even it I couldn't get it at a discount, the fact that I wouldn't need a receiver or wiring seems to make it more cost competitive with normal surround systems.

The selling point to me is the streaming from multiple sources and the fact that each speaker can be changed to different zones at the push of a button.

Are there any other systems I should be considering? I am not sure why, but I feel like the bluetooth speakers will not work as well or have as much flexibility as to what they can stream. I don't know enough about them other than what I have read on other websites.

I'm almost certain you need the bridge. It is the "brains" for the system. It allows you to stream pandora in the living room, spotify in the bedroom, and the radio outside. All of this in controlled by the app, but it has to read through the bridge.

You will need the bridge no matter what. And yuo dont stream from your phone to them speakres, they have that stuff built into them. your phone just acts a controller for the system. You can not play the speakers off your wifi network unless you take the bridge and hook it to someones router.

You don't need the bridge if you buy any of the connect devices, which hook up to existing speakers or an existing receiver. You will need the bridge if you buy the speakers alone. There has to be a device that connects in to your router to get internet access. The bridge/connect devices act as the 'wireless router' for the speakers, since they don't actually operate on the same wireless spectrum as your internet. (I am about 99% sure that is accurate, someone correct me if I am wrong).

I would jump all over getting Sonos at 40% off. It is one of, if not the best whole home speaker systems. There isn't much else out there that can even compare to it. Bose and maybe Samsung offer something, but I don't think they work as well.

I have a sonos connect and a sonos connect with built in amp for my existing speakers. My aunt and uncle have the play bar and two Sonos Play 1 speakers. All devices work incredibly well. The zone feature works perfectly.

Ah.

Sounds like the Sonos is my best choice.

Have you used it for your TV speakers? My tv has wifi and is connected, but I am wondering about ease of sync and any delays in sound due to having to go thru the network.
