I have become a huge fan of google music (the free version) and if it wasn't such a huge data hog, it would be the perfect music player.

as it is, i have to pin albums i listen to alot or else i hit my 2GB montly cap very quickly.

They are ALL data hogs. Nothing you can do about that.

I would probably give the edge to Google Music because of the Chromecast support and I believe it's a little cheaper?

They also pay the artist a good bit more than Spotify for each play as well (it's like $.004 per play on google music vs. $.0002 for Spotify)

If you have a Roku, the Roku Spotify app is pretty good, and their new facelift is pretty cool, and much more "hip" than the current look of google music.

As stated the 2gb monthly is going to kill you. I would recommend a no contract phone nexus 5 or the like and go to tmobile

i'm on tmobile and i have a nexus 5.

it doesnt turn off at 2GB, it slows down after that.

i use WiFi at home or work 90% of the time so its never been an issue.

PS i have 6 phones on tmobile and pay less than $100/mo total.

I'm using Spotify now, but the last time I used offline mode, the mobile app was shite.

Now that I see in this thread that Chromecast supports Google music, I may look into that. I have an older Roku XD that doesn't support the Spotify app.

depends on what you want. Does owning your music mean anything to you? If not, Spotify is the way to go. As far as Google Music v iTunes, I pay $25/year for iTunes Match and have loved it so far (2.5 years) even though I don't listen to music that often. When you use iTunes Match on an iOS device, it will download the song to your device while you stream. This means that the songs I listen to most often are already on device and don't use data every time I listen to them. But if I want to listen to one of the 24,000 other songs not on device it's no problem.
