Let's talk about cults

Have you or a loved one had any experience with a cult?
A guy from my hometown (not rural or white trash by any means, this guy was well off) is on the verge of becoming a cult leader. His story is almost cliche: devious, narcisstic child turned drug dealer/addict turned man of faith. Now he's travelling the country setting up ministries and "exorcising" people of their "demons" (I'm not exaggerating).
Cults interest me so I'm wondering if anyone knows someone that has been involved with a cult.
Jim Jones and the People's Temple, Heaven's Gate, Branch Dividians....shite is fascinating.

I think multi-level marketing companies are cults.

So far I am not convinced this is a cult. It may be a cult of personality but a cult involves brainwashing and pressure, usually sex...

Had to do a book report on this in 6th grade. What kind of teacher tells a 12 year old to go study up on hundreds of people killing themselves and their kids and then write a report about it? I still don't like drinking Kool Aid and I'm in my mid 40's.

It's still in the beginning stages. His videos are increasing in views and he's travelling further and further distances. I'm watching a cult grow.

I met a chick who was into EST, I mean one of the top zombies in the herd. I went to a meeting, but I was high on a speedball, so I got all weird and belligerent and they told me to leave. You know shite is real when you get KICKED OUT of a cult.
