Stupid is as stupid does... So now, not only do you not have your $15hr or your unionization, but you are jobless
The leaders of these organizations should be publicly flogged for manipulating these workers into circumstances like this.

More than 100 McDonald’s employees and some labor and clergy members were arrested after protesting for increased wages near the fast-food chain’s headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois.
The event, the latest in a series of demonstrations by workers demanding $15-an-hour pay and the right to form a union, began at 1 p.m. local time yesterday, on the eve of McDonald’s Corp.’s shareholder meeting.
About 2,000 protesters, including about 325 McDonald’s workers in restaurant uniforms, stormed though the company’s campus entrance at Jorie Boulevard and Kroc Drive in Oak Brook, according to the organizers, holding signs that said, “We Are Worth More” and “My Union My Voice.” The Oak Brook Police Department estimated the number was 1,000 to 1,500.

product of the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality.
you flip fricking burgers and drop fries into grease...you're not worth more

If they truly believe this, why not find a job that will pay them what they're "worth?"

What is wrong with you.
Someone should give them the job they deserve!

If they truly believe they are worth more, than why did they take the job at the pay McDonalds said they would pay them?

So, are most of these protesters not actual fast food employees?

Paid union protestors and shills who are there for the cameras and will leave when the media leaves
Also if I was making $7.50 an hour with kids as a single mother I sure as hell wouldn't waste money traveling 500 miles from Kansas City for this protest.

Doesn't sound like it... Makes you wonder who really wants the unionization, doesn't it?

There is a chance this trickles up. I think nurses and personal care assistants and nurse assistants and people who make foreign cars in the US will start to realize they are worth more.
It's not so much McDonald's workers, it's about getting the union movement up the food chain. This is not about McDonald's it's about semiskilled workers realizing their labor is not about enriching others but enriching themselves.
Laugh all you want but 15 years ago this would have been unthinkable. The fact that this happened is important. Losing a battle does not mean you lose a war. Let's hope those good people who work at Wal-Mart and Target start to realize they are worth more.
Remember when you eventually run out of people to oppress. I believe that the 1 per centers in this country are starting to act like Czar Nicholas.

I guarantee it trickles up... Why the frick would I go to college and spend tens of thousands of dollars to come out making 35-45k yr when I could not invest that money and make 30k a year

Since the Union has targeted Wal Mart, I have noticed more self check isles and less checkout clerks.
Maybe McDonalds should get a picture of an automated burger machine and pass it around to the union picket lines.

Because 15 years ago folks realized that fast food jobs were not meant to be career paths, but were mainly for high school and college kids trying to earn a few bucks and get work experience. I hope McDonald's fires every one of these people.

They already are. They are giving themselves raises by finding a job that pays better. The turnover rate of nurses is very high right now.

So why not find work elsewhere? Is it that there are no jobs to be found? Surely this can't be as the Obama administration has done a GREAT job on the unemployment rate - correct?

Who is laughing? Not me. I think it's sad that these workers don't realize that they are not slaves and are free to build skills at McDonalds and find work elsewhere.

Again, if they are truly worth more, why not leave and find a higher paying job? Seriously dude, why would these people be so married to one company?

What is this liberal code for? It has to be code for something because it sure isn't english.

Question for you. How many McDonalds franchise owners do you think are in the 1%? Who do you think are in the 1%?
I guarantee you that the 1% do not eat at McDonalds, do not own McDonalds franchises, and eat at steak houses where waiters make over $60K a year. What is your fricking point?

Same thing happened at Walmart 10 or 15 years ago when the butchers threatened to unionize. They did away with in-store butchers and all their meat comes in already cut. Quality suffered. I wouldn't feed most of the meat from Walmart to my dog.

quote:Who is going to pay them more for their limited skills? If there are others willing to pay more, then why haven't the semiskilled workers left to work for those willing to pay more? What you are really saying is you think people with limited skills are too stupid to realize the value of their labor. And that they need someone with more intelligence to take care of them.
This is not about McDonald's it's about semiskilled workers realizing their labor is not about enriching others but enriching themselves.

how are people in America oppressed by corporations?

Nope.
More than 84% of the protesters had no connection to McDonalds. Just a bunch of community and union organizers and other troublemakers.

It's morally wrong that corporate profits keep climbing every single quarter, and corporate officers keep getting never ending raises and bonuses, while wages for low end workers remain stagnant. How is that fair? Share the wealth to the point that hourly wages at least rise up to modern inflation rates. Factoring in inflation, low end workers have actually taken a pay cut from say the 50's or 60's. Again, how is this fair? I don't understand why the wealthy can have paid for politicians and lobbyists who constantly give them hand outs (in one form or another), yet when the working poor want to bargain for better, they are outright demonized.
Are y'all listening to too much Fox News and Rush? Would Jesus himself advocate against the poor?
Raise the minimum wage and not only do you score political points, but it also helps the economy. Those people making $10-$15 per hour minimum wage would put that money right back into the economy through purchasing.
