In 2008, were you excited about an Iron Man movie?

I was pretty meh. Marvel has done a great job with some characters that I had completely forgotten about.

I remember being optimistic about it.

SPOILER

I wish some of the villains would have made it out alive and not died in the end of all of them. I think Bridge's Obadiah Stane is one of the more underrated Marvel Cinematic villains.

EDIT: I take that back Justin Hammer and Senator Stern were taken in.

I was pretty meh but I remember seeing 90 something % on rotten tomatoes so I checked it out and liked it. Didn't care much for the sequels. Maybe I'm just burnt out on comic book movies.

I was very meh on the whole thing. In fact my mom of all people was shocked that I hadn't seen it when it came out to DVD and bought it for me and said I HAD to see it.

Iron Man was a good movie, but it was simply John the Baptist to The Dark Knight's Jesus Christ. (Sorry Lord, for blasphemy.)

I was excited. That first iron man was great, second and third were forgettable IMO.

I remember at the beginning of 2008 most people thought Crystal Skull would rule the summer, but TDK and Iron Man dominated.

Same here. I was never into comics as a kid, so a new ____-man movie never hyped me up too much back then. And I enjoyed the first one, but thought it was VASTLY overrated, and the sequels got progressively worse. I'll never understand the unbridled love for the IM franchise.

Avengers was awesome though...one of the most fun movies I've seen in a long time.

Yeah Freauxzen was wrong about that.

No, I was already growing tired of the comic book movie trend by that point.

Time for regular old action movies to make a comeback.

I remember thinking, "Who the frick is Iron Man, and why would they choose an obscure superhero for a movie." Now I still think it's the best superhero movie ever made. Of course, that is largely due to RDJ. I often wonder if it would have had the same success with a different actor.

Maybe he should add that to his "I was wrong this one time" thread from a few days ago.

I didn't even see it in the theaters. Tony Stark is an intentionally awful character. He was created to see if fans would buy a book with an unlikeable hero. He was always a second tier hero.

But they struck gold when they cast Robert Downey in the role. He transformed the role of Tony Stark from degenerate a-hole to loveable scamp. Also, to give credit, Jon Favreau has proven to be a great superhero movie director. He's great with the material.

I never would have guessed Iron Man would have been as good as it was.

Marvel and DC have taken such different approaches that I'm hesitant to compare them.

I remember seeing the preview and thinking "that looks dumb" but then saw the reviews and watched it when it came out on DVD and really liked it.

I was but it definitely got overshadowed by TDK, hell everything did. I did see it twice in the theatres though.
