With the lesser importance of Centers, do you ever think we will see the return of dominant big men? Back in the 90's we had Shaq, Hakeem, and Robinson. If say a team were to find a Center on the talent level of say Shaq or Hakeem would they wreck shop like no other?

There will be more big men eventually. I hope anyway. Teams who have a true 5 and know how to use them are fun to watch.

They are important but there is no one now that is on a Shaq or Hakeem level.

with as "wing centric" as the league has become and the value of centers dropping every year, you gotta think if a great center came around, he would completely dominate. most centers now are either skilled offensively(few) or defensively(most). almost none do both. what an advantage you'd have if you had a legit 2 way center.

point guards are a dime a dozen these days, wings slightly harder to find, but a true center? every team would struggle against that team like the heat struggle vs the pacers

Not as long as they're one and done. They aren't in school long enough to learn how to play the position. I believe even Shaq was at LSU for 3 years. Those days are over.

Dwight
Gasol
Noah

Demarcus Cousins is extremely skilled on the offensive end, but needs to get better defensively.

Drummand is going to be damn good imo.

Hibbert is a hell of rim protector. Needs to improve his rebounding and offensive game.

DeAndre Jordan just had a monster season.

I have good feeling Embiid is going to be special.

Everything I've seen is that no one around the league really even sees it as an issue.

I was listening to Gary Parrish the other day about how when he talks to people at Kansas they are 100% positive he is going to be better than Wiggins.

You can't teach his footwork.

The lack of illegal defense has severely limited the volume numbers of traditional back-to-basket big men. Ball movement and three point shooting are more important than ever to exploit defenses that load up on one side of the court and pack the paint.

That being said there's a great group of young big men coming along:

Davis (probably the only one at the level of Shaq/Hakeem so we'll see)
Cousins
Drummond
I'm still holding out hope for Favors

Hopefully Embiid and Towns over the next few years

Another couple of names to keep in mind:

Gorgui Dieng
Nikola Vucevic
Larry Sanders(needs to stay healthy)
John Henson(needs to add a bit of bulk and hit FTs better, has a solid balance of offense/defense and is young)
Jonas Valuncias(has the potential)

None of them are "dominant" but can become very good centers
