The Superdome is a great venue.

And is probably the most historic of any of the NFL stadiums, considering all the amazing events it has hosted- Muhammad Ali, The Pope, Frank Sinatra, WrestleMania, Super Bowls, Final Fours, etc.

I think our next Super Bowl host bid will be successful, unless we are going up against another city with a brand new stadium.

Wasn't there a story a while back about the Saints (specifically on their dollar) wanted to put a huge video board in the dome?

ETA:

quote:

“We are really pursuing (center-hung video board) for the Superdome,” Lauscha said. “We are working on that right now. We think if we can add a center-hung video board to the Superdome it will really help our Super Bowl LII bid in 2018.”

Not true. My tickets are in the end zone of the terrace. I can see everything clearly.

It is true. I've sat in 3 or 4 different seats where I couldn't see a portion of the end zone. That's a fact.

No need to rebuild the stadium though.

The Superdome is a new stadium in the shell of a 40 year old architectural wonder.

Anyone who thinks the Saints need a new stadium is a fricking idiot. The Superdome itself is a draw for the Superbowl. Newness does not mean better. The Superdome's place in the American mind will always have it close to the top of American stadiums. Use your history as a resource and strength.

My God should we tear down Commanders and Galatoire's so we can build a new Bonefish Grill because Nashville built one?

Morons.

As much as I like the dome, it's reaching the point where new stadium avenues must be explored. I think the superdome has reached critical mass in terms of being able to be renovated/upgraded. More space is needed in the concourses, better plumbing and ingress/egress to the stadium. A lot of the "fixtures" just seem to be dated.

This affects you how? I have no problem with the Dome. I get in and out of it in less than 10 minutes at it's busiest.

The dome is a great football facility until you sit in the end zone seats and realize you can't even see the end zone that you sit in. Then you realize it sucks as a football stadium. This stadium was built as a duel sports stadium and not really good for either. Time for a new stadium.

Are you an idiot?

It's not true. The guy that I responded to originally said that if you sit in the endzone, you cannot see the endzone you are sitting in. He made a blanket statement that is not true. I've had tickets in the end zone for 9 years and can see it clearly. Maybe there is some seats that you cannot see it in but it's not for my section. It must me at a certain section or angle. I can see the whole endzone clearly. Here's a pic from my section:

They might be Giants^

The sight lines at the Dome are fine.

Some folks just want new for new's sake.

Not going through all posts to see if this has been said.

I would bet money that when the owners voted for the last Super Bowl in NY, the owner said that if he got support for it, he would put his support to others in cold cities and new stadiums in return. I believe you will see more cities host it now. Like others have stated, you won't have a new stadium every year. We will host it again without a new stadium.

I was not surprised when they awarded it to minn. It has nothing to do with what the city offers, but if the city offers the latest and greatest facility. Like the other posters who hit the nail on the head, there is no point to building a new stadium for one super bowl.

The dome is an icon. It means so much to the city and region. The renovations done over the past several years put it right up there with new stadiums. Only thing that needs to be done is replace all seats in the terrace and loge end zone, upgrade those restrooms, new screens, etc. the saints are exploring a center hung video board similar but smaller to dallas.

It does not take much investment in the dome to compete with the latest and greatest.

After the Superdome was renovated after Katrina I didn't think so but then I went to Seattle and saw that state of the art facility. I immediately commented it made the dome look like a dump. It even had incredible design features.

Benson no, when everyone knows it will probably be his last chance to host the game.

Nobody cares about that. A lot of owners never got to host one SB let alone the amount he has. Also, Joe Public could give a crap that it is NOLA's bday. Take the homer glasses off.

I could actually see announcing plans for a new stadium helping NOLA get two SBs. One last one in the Superdome (similar to Yankee Stadium getting one last All Star game) and one in the new state of the art stadium.
