LAS VEGAS, Nev. — They were used for testing in research labs, kept in cages their entire lives. But last week, nine Beagles — called the “Lucky 9? — were rescued from a lab in Nevada by the Beagle Freedom Project. Their lab numbers were removed, and they were given real names. Then, they were introduced to the sun, fresh air — even grass — for the very first time, according to the project’s website. No one knew how the dogs would react after a lifetime indoors. But soon their instincts took over.

That is awful and touching all at the same time. I'm glad they got them out of there!

I absolutely love beagles. They are one of the, if not THE least aggressive dogs on the planet. They are basically everything you look for in a family companion. I donate to this group and the onein California regularly and I love seeing their results, even though it hurts knowing they've been caged up.

It has been worse here, Those figures were a lot higher a couple of years ago. We just added another dog, a Catahoula Cur that we couldn't pass up.

Damn why do they have to experiment on dogs. They should use monkeys and rats exclusively. I wouldn't have given a shite if I had seen some monkeys released in the wild for the first time.

Awwwww, they looked so happy running around. The one beagle that ran up to each and every dog was adorable.

I hope they find good homes for those poor babies. Def will take some very patient dog lovers to take them in. You see how skittish they were around people.

I believe that they use beagles because of their personalities. You will almost never meet a beagle that doesn't love you immediately upon meeting you.

Sometimes it's required to get approval for all the medications you use on your own dog. Unfortunately no other way for the FDA to give it the go-ahead. Didn't see the vid and don't know what these particular beagles were used for.

I think that and likely b/c of their size and availability. Not as expensive to house these guys. Auburn had a group of research beagles when I was there.
