Testing has to happen. But it would be nice if they let the dogs party in some tricked out yard or something instead of just hanging in a cage all day.

For the ones whose testing do not require them to have limited, environmental exposure or those that require very low activity level I agree, completely.

Dammit, couldn't watch the video. At first everything was fine and then everything got all blurry. It was right about the point where they took the dogs outside.

probably not gonna be too popular an opinion here, but those dogs look to be in pretty damn good shape to have been allegedly mistreated...take away all of the hoopla and sappy music and they look exactly like any other group of beagles in a strange place...

I know the feel.

Mine has the personality of a Wolverine. She tracks and hunts animals, tussles with Coyotes, and tries to frick up the hound dogs.

I think the mistreatment isn't food/water, but being kept in cages and never being allowed to be dogs.

Would like to know the research going on that requires them to be in cages all day and never get to enjoy the outdoors and run and play.

glad you brought it up, not only that, but how would you like to be on a long flight stuck seated next to that cow in the beginning talking about how Dean had been deprived of an identity?

You will almost never meet a beagle that doesn't love you immediately upon meeting you.

That's all hounds. I have a coonhound and all she wants to do is lay next to you

Thanks for posting. Reminds me a lot of the chimp documentaries. I do not want another dog after current family member passes on. I would take one of those today. Very moving and impactful.

Sometimes it's required to get approval for all the medications you use on your own dog. Unfortunately no other way for the USDA to give it the go-ahead. Didn't see the vid and don't know what these particular beagles were used for.

FIFY. The USDA is the regulatory agency for pets vaccines, pharmaceuticals, etc.

Thanks for the link OP.

I was thinking about getting a beagle. But I read a thread on here I believe and several ppl claim that they bark incessantly. Is that accurate?

Its to maintain homogeneity within and among all groups. They treat the canines the same as the mice, rats, pigs, monkeys, guinea pigs, etc. Its definitely not ideal for the dogs but it is necessary for safety and other studies unfortunately.

I perform experimental treatments on canines, but they are people's pets who have developed cancer. My most recent publication on the subject received negative comments from one of the peer-reviewers because he thought we needed to use laboratory canines. He's an idiot.
