How sketched would you be driving your family up this trail?

This video is the Laurel Lakes trail just outside of Mammoth Lakes California.

Going on a family vacation out west in a couple of weeks to drive all through the eastern Sierras.
We have offroad trails planned for every day, this is planned for day 2, but this is the only one I can find a good video of. I think my wife and son are going to shite bricks. The day 1 trail is rated harder than this one and it will be my first offroad driving experience on this type of terrain. The guidebook starts off with "not for the fainthearted"...I'm starting to question the sanity of such a trip, that video really brings the danger into focus. I've completely planned for this though, so we should be fine.

I've been there. Nice high desert spot. Lots of motorsports up there.

The Owens River is sweet. Awesome fishing amongst the willows.

That didn't seem all that bad. Check out Black Bear Pass.

Looks awesome, but like the Youtube commenter said, it'd be best to have another vehicle or 2 make the trail with you in case of a break down. A tow truck likely won't go up there. I can just see the oil pan being punctured on those rocks too.

That didn t look to bad.. A couple hairy parts with slide offs but if you prepared and trust your abilities then no worries and enjoy

Eta: as pointed out above.. I'd go with another vehicle.. Breakdown would be my biggest concern

I probably need to practice 'clutch cancel start' and go up some steep hills in 4lo to see where it dies with rpms.

They get stopped in this video by a snow patch and I doubt my truck could make the turn like theirs, although there's a truck just like mine parked there. I'm glad I got E rated tires with all of that shale.

Driving up mountain roads with a manual transmission truck? Yea, uh I don't necessarily have any. Hopefully I'm a quick learner.

Sketchy, sketch-ball, hairball, dodgy...unsettlingly unpredictable.

When climbing rocks.. Clutch work is key.. Most new drivers use automatic because it won't work your clutch as much and risk burning it out or stalling a bunch.. I haven't off roaded much in years but I preffered an auto when there wasn't mud.

Like take my wife and kids up there? Hell no. Me and a buddy? Sure, but no way I'm putting my family on that.

I'm planning on 4lo all the way up that fricker. I'll get out at each switch back and pick a line if it looks difficult. I was planning on two trails that day, but I may just drive that one then go drink some beer somewhere.

The scary part is that pressing the clutch on the descent effectively breaks the truck free, and bad shite could happen quickly. Ugh.
