I think it does a good job setting the tone for the movie. It's not The Avengers type hero movie, it's more off-beat characters. I think the slightly goofy, but recognizable song from the 60s playing over the futuristic-space stuff provides a purposeful disconnect.

The comics for Guardians of the Galaxy are somewhat goofier than say the Avengers and I think could play out into a pretty good movie. Younger folks here probably won't remember the movie "Ice Pirates", but I'm thinking something like that only cooler, more bad arse, and without space herpes. I'm kind of glad they didn't include Phyla Vell or Adam Warlock in the movie, who are other members of the GoG that basically have magic powers and are kind of boring (well other than the fact Phyla is a lesbian). Mantis may appear down the road (Skye from shield could be Mantis?). I'm surprised Love Bug wasn't used. He was a pretty funny member of GoG.

Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man in the Mark L suit)
Nathan Fillion (Rick Ryder of the Nova Corps)
or Sam Jackson (Nick Fury)
Supposedly, Sean Gunn's role is key to the film.
Also, Michael Rooker has a mohawk for when he played Yondu.
