BBC: Death Toll Rises

quote:

More than two dozen people are feared dead in Bosnia-Hercegovina and Serbia after the worst floods in more than a century.

quote:

"More than 20 corpses have so far been brought to the city's morgue," the mayor of Doboj, in the north-east, was quoted as saying.

The republic's police chief, Gojko Vasic, said the situation had been particularly difficult in Doboj "because the flood waters acted as a tsunami, three to four metres high. No-one could have resisted."

I saw some photos a couple of days ago. What is the cause of the flooding? Heavy rainfall combined with the melting snow flowing downward? I don't recall Serbia being a place with lots of floods usually.

Sorry to hear this, but what is up with them and those striped warm up pants? Is that the fashion that keeps on keeping on over there?

62zip is spot on. Ask your Croation friend about the village of Glamoc as well. All three factions were guilty of atrocious war crimes. The Serbians have the bad reputation b/c they despised the US the most.

When we did patrols or convoys during Operation Joint Guard you knew you were in a Serbian town based on the "warm welcome" received by the locals.

I had to step back and take a deep breath. We are n Mostar BiH and headed to Sarajevo tomorrow. The flooding is at historic levels and has impacted Croats, Serbs, and Bosnians, there is no "ethnicity" to a flood. Anyone who had anything to do with Katrina should understand.
The atrocities that have taken place here go back centuries and have in effect become a feud. Until there is less nationalism and more forgiveness, it will continue.

Taking your neighbor's land is a more popular past time in the Balkans than water polo or bocce. That is independent of the ethnic and religious differences.

Since you are the TD foreign correspondent on the scene, pics plz.
