I'm not saying this guy is an angel or that he should face jail time. But you would have to say he has bad luck and lawyers

-Under house arrest for a for a marijuana conviction.

-He evacuated because of Hurricane Gustav, defense attorney Anna Friedberg said Friday. For reasons that are unclear, Camese admitted to felony simple escape, in exchange for a year of probation

-Camese, a diminutive man, borrowed the 12-gauge shotgun from a friend, because he feared his girlfriend's brothers amid a domestic dispute, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. Camese got into bed with the gun, the barrel pointed to the wall, when it discharged.

The shot gun blast goes through the wall and kills his neighbor. He pleads guilty to negligent homicide.

Figures the max he would get could be 5 years. After Camese pleaded guilty, Assistant District Attorney Myles Ranier filed a multiple bill, seeking an enhanced sentence under the state's career criminal statute. Ranier cited Camese's prior felony conviction for simple escape, a charge to which he pleaded guilty in 2009.

Judge gives him 8 years.

I always thought the shotgun was the best home defense gun because it didn't go through walls with force.

Well if he was in his bed the barrel was probably only 2 or 3 feet from the wall.

I don't know what to think. His main crime IMO is being stupid and I don't know what can be done about that so I will just trust the legal system in this one case.

Under the habitual offender law the judge loses a lot of discretion. I didn't read the link but judge might've not had a choice.
