Looking to get a gopro to catch some cool footage on a vacation coming up as well as just outdoorsy things here and there. Should i go with the silver @ $300 or is the quality of the black edition worth the extra money @$400?

TIA

How much do you think you'll actually use it? You might want to consider just getting the white for $200

Request Admins to move this to Outdoor Board and you'll get more answeres....

You should be fine with regular one. I think the only real upsell is the wifi remote control on the other.

Silver is probably fine. Dad is poor and has the White ( I think that is the base model in hero line). It does well. The go pro WiFi app is handy if you want start and stop it.

I got the Hero3 silver off eBay for $250.

I use my iPhone as a wifi remote. It's pretty handy to be able to see the framing of the shot before you record especially if you are using a mount.

Battery life is very short though if you leave the wifi on.

The quality of the black is worth the price increase IMO, but it obviously won't be for everyone.

It really boils down to how much you'll use it and what you'll use it for.

I got the white as a gift and the video quality is great, I couldn't see anything that would be worth doubling the price when an iphone makes their little remote thingy useless.

Well ik the black can shoot in 4k but the outlets to watch and share it haven't quite caught up yet with that quality

If 4k is your main focal point, wait for the Hero 4 that will be released later this year.

It will have FAR better 4k specs.

The 4k on the current black is mostly a gimmick.

On the GoPro website you can get a refurbished Black Hero 3 (not 3+) for $265.

Next trip, pick up one of these 4K, 360° cameras. CENTR CAMERA

Software for it was designed by an LSU grad from right here in big BR.

Whatever you do, make sure you post them on facebook where nobody will watch them except your Aunt and three single nerdy friends who just "like" everything anyway
