An unidentified player on the St. Louis Rams says Michael Sam's upcoming reality show on the Oprah Winfrey Network could potentially cause friction.

"It's an interesting case that he gets to work with Oprah and have his own show, but I think it does raise eyebrows and it may be somewhat of a distraction," the player told ESPN's Josina Anderson. "But this is our first time dealing with something like this, so we'll have to wait and see how it plays out and how people react."

Look for it to come out who said this in 10 years and he will have to surrender any involvement with the league he has at that point.

This player needs to be identified and made to issue a public apology.

It's obvious this is an extremely homophobic statement.

The fact that Michael Sam has a reality show on Oprah's Network does not make him any different than any other football player.

I think some sort of sensitivity training is in order.

He's not wrong. Sam is a fricking media circus. There's nothing incorrect or hateful about that quote but that faction will make it out to be homophobic and make it a goal to find out who said it so he can be publicly crucified.

He didn't say anything against gays at all. He said something against TV cameras filming his rookie year.

No to be negative, but no shite it's going to be a distraction. The 7th round rookie is bringing a fricking media circus with him.

Damn, we had a good thread going before this guy brought in his negativity.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

Rams should ban them from the facility provided they had planned to film there.

sounds a lot different than the headline ESPN used.

Horrendous statement. He deserves the Sterling treatment.

Of course he's a huge distraction. You know most of those players are thinking all of this for 7th round pick. Should have drafted someone else and avoided the headache.

And the media bitched at everyone who suggested that he would be a distraction.

Shame on them

Maybe the Rams could use a distraction. I'm sure having to think about losing every week gets old.

Being a distraction isn't the end of the world, but to argue that the media attention that will come with Sam won't be a distraction is delusional, in my humble opinion. I'm guessing every interview with Rams players in the near future will contain a question about Sam.

I'm really disappointed with the Oprah thing. I hope Sam backs out of it. At the very least, I hope it's not some "Hard Knocks" thing with a camera crew following the guy around that will air during training camp. They want to run a 2 hour documentary after the season ends and it's stuff about Sam learning the playbook, hanging out with his boyfriend, getting adjusted to the NFL life, I have less of an issue with that.

I don't have a problem that he kissed his boyfriend on draft day -- the guy was happy about getting drafted and he was celebrating with his significant other. But the idea of having a camera crew around plays into the fear that the guy wants media attention and will be a huge distraction.
