Sounds like someone was anxious to see if he could hit the "dime sized kill spot"

Good lord.

I would guess he got flushed out of a nearby estuary.

Not normal at all since alligators are fresh water animals.

Down in the Dry Tortugas a salt water croc. somehow made it from the everglades to Fort Jefferson and lives in the moat. It had to travel over 75 miles of open ocean to make it.

Common in the salt marsh. I have seen a few in Caillou Bay which is basically the gulf.

i'm pretty sure that american crocs routinely cross the open ocean.

from wikipedia: C. acutus is the most widespread of the four extant species of crocodiles from the Americas.[1] It inhabits waters such as mangrove swamps, river mouths, fresh waters, and salt lakes, and can even be found at sea (hence its wide distribution on the Caribbean Islands,[15] southern Florida, the Greater Antilles and southern Mexico to Colombia and Ecuador.[19][27]

Not terribly uncommon.

Just glad we don't have to deal with crocs.

What else could he have done? Catch and release? It's a gator for Christ's sake. They are overpopulated as it is. We won't miss 1!

Meanwhile, it was on a beach full of families. Would you have been ok with the gator doing something to a person? It obviously was not going anywhere or afraid.

I think is was the right call....too big to move, wrestle, etc

They're all over the saltwater surrounded barrier islands along Texas gulf coast... North and South Padre, Mustang, Matagorda...

I was on a job 15-20 years ago solidifying the pogie ponds at the pogie plant in Cameron. we chased dozens of gators out of the ponds and into the ship channel. they all swam south towards open waters.

all except the ones the Mexicans/Cubans had put rope around their necks. they told me they were taking them to the ship channel to let them go.
