I was buying live crawfish last weekend for Mothers Day and the people in front of me were buying 2 sacks with their Lone Star Card (Texas from of Food Stamps). While this is not technically abuse since it is very legal to do, should there be limits of what you can buy with this stuff? I mean I hear of people buying Steaks, Lobster, and Crab Legs all the time. They need to limit it to stuff that will help feed your family and survive like bread, pasta and vegetables, not luxury items like Steak and Lobster, and Crawfish.

Whats wrong with buying raw meat. Basic ingredients are what they are supposed to buy, but get flack for super processed snack foods.

I once worked at a specialty grocery store and people would buy caviar with their food stamps.

They don't need meat. Hell, the price of beef is skyrocketing and they get it for free?

Let them buy bulk staples with their card. Beans, rice, powdered milk. Vegetables.

Poverty should be painful

Not painful but shitty at the same time. Built in incentive to not be poverous anymore.

So they used $150 worth of food stamps for 4 actual pounds of tail meat in the end... I think that qualifies as abuse.

I was in Florida a few years ago and this lady in front of me was purchasing food with her card. When the cashier got to the mussels that the store had steamed for the customer, the cashier informed her that they were not covered. So the lady said she didn't want them. So the store had to throw them away.

As I'm leaving the store the lady is pulling out in her gold trimmed Lexus.

Why is live crawfish a luxury? What is it now...less than $2 a pound? Ground beef is way more than that, as is chicken.

You shithead.

I don't understand why there aren't more limits on what these cards can be used on. I saw a well dressed woman get out a nice car last week buy a handful of groceries on her card and then break out cash for her grape blunt and fifth of Kettle One vodka. that abuse makes me even madder b/c she's obviously got a decent source of income that's being hidden from the government.

Yeah for the shells, for the actual meat, it's about $40/lbs.
