One Example:

quote:

Poseur

1. Michael Brooks. I still think he's the best linebacker to ever play for LSU, and it's a tragedy he suffered a knee injury against Florida in 1986. It ruined his NFL career (he still made one Pro Bowl) and if he played now, the modern surgery techniques would allow him to have a full career.

2. Gabe Northern. The best player for LSU when I was in school, and one of my all-time favorites. Great player, and a better person. He also made Stephen Davis' helmet pop off, and I appreciate that sort of violence.

3. Josh Reed. Just so I could watch that Alabama game again. 19 catches. 293 yards.

4. Bert Jones. LSU is probably the best program with the worst historical QB play. I would've loved to have seen Jones in a modern passing offense. His 1976 NFL season is one of the best ever (https://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=139) and I'd love to see him get his moment in the sun.

5. Tyrann Mathieu. I believe Zod is the better player, but Mathieu is the single most unique player in LSU, and maybe college football, history. We will never see a player like him again, and he's the most exciting, and fun, player to ever don the purple and gold. And really, we just got one year of it. We were robbed.

Entire list

My Top Five:
1.Tyrann Mathieu
2.Rohan Davey
3.Josh Reed
4.Michael Clayton
5.Kelvin Sheppard

Honorable mentions:
Ryan Perrilloux,Jeremy Hill & Shyrone Carey

No Cecil Collins = suspect list, IMO.

That's a good list. Mine...

1. Tyrann Mathieu
2. Michael Brooks
3. Patrick Peterson
4. Dalton Hilliard
5. I'll take the coward's way out since I couldn't differentiate among Jarvis Landry, Eric Martin, and Josh Reed.

I emphasize that, although these were all great players, they weren't necessarily the very best - just the most entertaining.

I think that's the point of the list.

LSU's top 5 passers by total yards all time:

Tommy Hodson
Jeff Wickersham
JaMarcus Russell
Jamie Howard
Herb Tyler

You don't think that isn't a pretty poor list of all-time passing leaders for a historically great program?

LSU has only had one QB in its history ever make 1st team All-American, and that was Bert Jones in 1972, and he was nowhere near consensus (Sporting News and AFCA only, not AP or Walter Camp). I think its entirely fair to say that LSU's QB play has been weak for a program of its stature and success.

1. Kevin Faulk
2. Cecil Collins (the what if factor almost makes him an easy #1)
3. Patrick Peterson
4. Eddie Kennison
5. Josh Reed/Tommy Hodson

Only Included players that I've seen in my lifetime, i.e. '86ish

Nothing against my man Sheppard (was a big fan) but he's a curious mention.

If we're only talking about players we physically saw play in person or on TV, I'll go:

1. Tyrann Mathieu (hard to top the joy of watching his playmaking ability)
2. Kevin Faulk (favorite all-time Tiger)
3. Patrick Peterson
4. Josh Reed (dat Bama game tho...)
5. Glenn Dorsey (dude was a beast his senior year)

solid list right there. lavalais, dorsey & tyrann were my honorable mentions. though the more i think, tyrann should probably be in my top 5. No love for eddie kennison, people? dude was a 1 man show!

1. TM7
2. PP7
3. Josh Reed
4. The Diesel
5. Chad Jones

Very hard to narrow this down to just 5 players. Could have easily spouted off 15.

This.

I still go back and watch TM7's highlights and just wonder..."how'd he do that?"

I just really enjoyed KS11's leadership & command of the defense during the '10 season. Brandon Taylor & him were the glue that kept that defensive unit sound.

Any list without Glenn Dorsey is suspect.

He rag-dolled linemen.
