Any one owned one.

Still in college, don't have much money and have heard really good things about it.

Fixing to pick one up, always wanted a 1911 but can spend the extra money for a wilson or something.

I know that but can I can't get a Ruger 1911 at academy for 520 plus tax. I'm not looking to be cheap but I'm all about bang for the buck and it seems Taurus puts out shite regularly but according to everyone online it seems they've figured it out on their 1911 model.

you might be like $100 or a bit more away from a ruger.

I've got one. It's ok. The trigger isn't great, but it was pretty inexpensive. I would suggest saving up and buying what you really want.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: a friend of mine has a Rock Island Armory 1911. It eats anything. He never cleans it. I think he has even fired reloads with it. Not a hitch. It's nuts. I think he's trying to break it.

ETA: and it's about 200 less than what you're looking at.

I know plenty of people who have Taurus, and they are pretty good. I think I've heard less than good things about their 1911's, though. It may had been on this board, fwiw.

Little detail that I didn't mention was I'm getting this as a wedding present from the fiance, whatever I want but I want to keep it close to 5-600 because she's taking the brunt of the bills while I'm still in grad school.

What I really want I won't be able to afford until I'm out of school and I can buy a Wilson Combat.

But it seems I might be able to find a nice Ruger on gunbroker for a decent price.

I traded for one and loved it. It shot a lot better than I expected. Went to a gun show and told a guy there to just make an offer, seems like he offered me more than they are new. I no longer have one.

The beretta clone, Taurus pt92 is a great gun as well. The only way somebody could knock it is if they haven't shot one.

Taurus, Charter, Jiminez, Rossi - all junk brands.

If you want to go cheap, Rock Island or Para are slightly better pistols.

Taurus

pt92 and judge are good not sure on the 1911 but I would go RIA, Ruger, or STI Spartan at that price.

If it's just a toy to play with, go get the Taurus and quit worrying about it.

If it's for SD, that's the wrong time to go cheap.

Rock Island Armory 1911

I've had 3 Taurus revolvers a number of years and have been very pleasd w/ them. I don't have a Taurus semi-auto so my "experience" w/ them has been entirely from what I've read on the 'net. A few years ago I wanted to buy a lower price 1911. I did a lot of research on the 1911 forums. Based on that I bought an American Classic Commander, followed shortly by a Citadel Officer. They both got better reviews at that time than did Taurus. In addition, they don't cost quite as much. Both are made in the Philippines,Citadel and RIA are made at the same factory by Armscor and American Classic is made by Metro Arms. Based on my research at the time and my personal experience w/ Citadel/American Classic, I'd suggest giving the these other brands some consideration, as well. In addition, I'd give thought to getting a Commander sized 1911 as opposed to the GI (full) model. For a number of people, the shorter barreled Commander (4.25" instead of 5")handles and points better.

I have friends who own Taurus semiautos, but not the 1911's. The G2's, the slims, etc...they are all good guns.

I have one and I love it. No, it's not a springfield, sig, or wesson but it eats anything I feed it and goes bang everytime. I can hit what I aim at with it so for my opinion, they are nice guns for the money. I think it's comparable to RIA, or any of those phillipine made 1911's. I do want a commander size SR1911 but just to have another, not because I don't like the Taurus.

Edit: For the record, I never clean mine either. It shoots, reloads, brass case, steel case, and even some hand cast reloads that a buddy did for me.
