Closer look at the lyrics and what impeled some of these phrases:
Butane in my veins
So I'm out to cut the junkie
With the plastic eyeballs,
Spray-paint the vegetables
Dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose
Kill the headlights
And put it in neutral
Stock car flaming' with a loser
And the cruise control
Baby's in Reno with the vitamin D
You get a parking violation
And a maggot on your sleeve
So shave your face
With some mace in the dark
What is Beck trying to convey in this song?

I always thought:
And my time is a piece of wax
Falling on a termite
Who's choking on the splinters
was a cool arse lyrics, especially how he sings it in the song. not sure why because it makes zero sense, but I always liked it.

Has there ever been a more unlikely hit?
White guy rapping in his friend's apartment kitchen turns into international #1.

Beck recorded himself playing slide guitar on a four track for about an hour. Then the guy he was working with Took part of the noodling and added a drum loop that became the main riff we know and love.
Beck then started rapping stupidly on top of the looped guitar riff, completely improvising. He was so embarrassed at the lyrics that he'd come up with that he just started singing 'I'm a Loser baby' in the chorus.

I dug this song and video, but I think it's like "Brick, are you just looking around the room and saying you love things?"

he was definitely before his time and completely original which outweighs the over all sillyness of the song.

people used to say he had autism before autism was a thing. idk if that had anything to do with it.

I don't think so. Definitely a unique song.

I thought he looped Gilded Splinters?

I have the utmost respect for Beck, but never really got into him.
I love this tune, and Gamma Ray.
I´ve enjoyed two albums of his many moons ago, couldn´t even tell you the names of them. I know they´re both famous.
Anyway, somebody please be so kind as to recommend how to proceed with getting into Beck, as if I were a complete and total newbie.
TIA!

Man, you kinda just had to be there. Idk if you can get into beck now, people might think your crazy

Sample first-it's a departure, but maybe try Sea Change. Real continuity and Valium-like effects.
Radiohead producer, if that tells you anything.

This is correct. Double points for knowing who the drummers were...?

After that just listen to any of it. Midnite Vultures is straight funk. Sea Change is a slow tempo break up album. Guero is a not as good Odelay. Modern Guilt and The Information are both decent. Haven't listened to the new one yet, so idk about that one.
Hope that helps.
