if so, which one and how do you like it?

I saw the Apple 27" up close this weekend and my jaw dropped. Wow is the word. 1000 bucks though, and $1600 if you want the computer to go with it. I am not an Apple guy so I don't know how it works with stuff I am used to using..

At age 48 I need reading glasses more and more, I think a top end monitor would help the eyes

thoughts /suggestions

thanks

Asus is going to have a 28" 4k monitor launch in the next month that is only $650. If I was buying one, that'd be it.

technology marches on.

meanwhile the OT tells me i'm greedy for exceeding my 250GB comcast cable data cap monthly.

just wait until 4k HD streaming arrives. then you're going to see some bandwidth get eaten.

Bruce, thanks for posting this.

I am just now starting to evaluate components for my next custom built computer (Asus motherboard FTW), and was wondering about monitors.

I'll check this one out.

No problem. I've been looking into 4k lately, but I'll probably go with a 39" TV and it will double as a bench marking and monitor.

Come on over to the gaming board. Even if it's not a gaming computer, we love helping out with builds (or at least I do).

Maybe, but remember that high-res = more pixels displaying the same image, so text will be a lot smaller compared to your run of the mill 1080p. Zoomed-in text will be a lot sharper, though. My main monitor is a 27" 1440p display, and I often have to zoom in to read these forums. And I'm only 28.

That guy was a special case. Extremely sensitive, little man syndrome. There was no getting through to something like that.

Thanks for the invite. I might check it out.

My trusted sources have always been anandtech and tomshardware.

Intel is releasing a new chipset in the second half of this year (socket 2011), and new Haswell CPUs as well. Trying to wait it out. Current box is 11 yrs old, so what's the hurry

x99 is what I'm waiting on. DDR4

Yep, if you've got the patience to wait for X99(and ~$900 to spend on a CPU/Motherboard combo alone), that would be the best for sure -- assuming this is a power-user build.

The new Haswell refresh and Z97 are out now. Very minor improvements, as is the Intel way unfortunately.

Same

service pack 3 for XP Pro is what's slowed down my system, because I only have a single core CPU.

Like the previous poster asked, what about these high res monitors and their making everything look small? Is the an adjustment in monitor settings for this?
