How good are you feeling about the Post-Brees era?

I have to say, I'm feeling better than ever about it. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a "well just be fine without him" kind of post." This is more like "man were starting to look like a team set up for long term success."
In just one year we were able to turn this defense around with tons of young guys on contract for at least a few years. Our offense just got a pretty huge shot in the arm with a guy like Cooks to add to Colston and Graham. I think our running game will be better than ever with a very good stable of young backs and a very stable o-line outside of the uncertainty at C.
I'm starting to believe more and more that well be serious contenders without Brees as long as Payton stays here and continues this program. He isn't afraid to let young guys shine and has now shown the willingness to ship guys off when production has slipped or value has dropped.
TL;DR version: all the people who say (not necessarily just on this board) we're gonna fall of the map after Brees will be proven wrong with the large amount of young talent infused into this team.

I'll feel good if we position ourselves with a top QB in the post Brees era draft

But so much depends on getting a very good replacement for Brees.
Even with Brees, we've only won one superbowl.

Never will know until we get his replacement. And most of these guys won't even be on the team when he retires. Or they will be on the decline

I would have felt something shift in my pants had we drafted Garoppolo.

Terrible.
I mean it's the f@cking Post-Brees era!
But to your other point we have/are getting younger which was most needed and the competition in camp this year at WR, Center, CB, RB (MIvsKR) #2QB and OLB will be fun to watch.

I will bet the house my statement is correct.

Not great.
It's very tough to find the next great QB to follow a HOFer. Indy got extremely "luck"y with the way their situation worked out. The Packers took a shot on Rodgers that worked out brilliantly. But with those two examples comes the other side of the coin.
Until Manning, Denver was desperate to find someone to replace Elway and his great success (5 Super Bowl appearances). Buffalo is still trying to find its next Jim Kelly. Miami hasn't found Marino's replacement. SF struggled after Young retired. Dallas took while to recover after Aikman left. etc. etc.
This is a QB driven league, and great ones just don't come about every day. I fully anticipate the Saints to struggle for at least a little while following Brees departure. That's why the time to win is NOW. I'd gladly live with 5 years of struggles if Bress and co. could deliver one or two more championships in the next few years.

We aren't in the Post-Brees era yet, and therefore I'm not even worrying about it. I'll bother with it when it comes.

Depends. If Loomis/Payton are still around then i'm feeling pretty good about it plus were a pretty young team right now besides at the QB position.

We've seen in the past 3 years, great defense can carry teams just as well as great offenses/QBs can.
This defense on paper SHOULD be golden for at least 5-6 years and if we can still hit on draft picks and the current players production keeps up, we're looking at being dominant in the defense side of the ball for years to come.
Combine that with an above average QB like SEA/SF, we can do great things. Look at Carolina last year as well.

Brees can play as long as he wants in NO. I can't see him retiring anywhere else or calling it quits. Manning, Brees, and Brady will play like Brett Favre did. Until the get hurt or forced to retire

Yes but those defenses have capable QBs as well. We may not need another HOFer post Brees, but we will definitely need a QB that can run the offense.

an alex smith led offense and a enforcing defense that wrecked and caused turnovers carried a SF team in '11.
I think we're more than capable in building an equivalent (or almost) defense and finding a QB that can do what alex smith does. That also means ~15mil of money can be distributed on offense as well. Whether that means going to the OL or WR/RB is to be determined.
Of course it is all said in a vacuum, but finding an above average QB may not be too difficult.

I would feel better if the Chiefs didn't steal Murray

It's way too early to even think about that.
Will Rob Ryan still be here when Drew leaves? Does he regress in his second year like Gregg Williams?
Does Lofton last that long?
Do we lose some guys to injury?
Do we ever find a corner to replace Greer, or do we just keep drafting potential replacements every year?
Evans will be pretty old by that time and Armstead will probably be around, but who are our other offensive lineman?
Do we draft a grom a QB prior to that, or do we end up throwing QB after QB into the rotation to try to get the job done?
Does Payton get fired if there are a few really bad seasons and he gets stale? He's already one of the longest tenured head coaches in the NFL.
That's short term. Do you think Colston is still playing after Brees leaves? He's already 30 and has had some injuries. Not sure he last another 4 to 5 years.
And I'm hoping for Cooks, but who says he pans out to be a good NFL player.
Does Graham stay after Brees leaves?
Too many variables to predict that far into the future for an NFL team.
