Being realistic though:

If CSP is still here I'm not worried about the QB position. I mean.. I'm worried, but I don't see us reverting Into the Jaguars or something.

I'm a guy who credits coaches more than QBs for said QBs success. I think BB created Brady. Payton created Brees. Etc

Obviously Brees was good in his last few seasons with SD before he came over here but he wasn't a HOFer like he is right now. He's a top 10 QB all time right now. And he owes a lot of that to Sean Payton. He turned a good QB into an elite QB. he can do it again. I'm sure of it.

It's like nobody on this board was a fan of the Saints prior to 2006!

QBs don't just fall off of trees people. Brees was a Pro Bowl QB we lucked into getting in FA because the San Diego front office is stupid.

Our best QB draftee in recent memory was Marc Bulger. And we ended up waiving him.

Smith played decent that year and ran their offense. I said capable QB play, not great. And if they were so easy to find you wouldn't have teams willing to sacrifice everything year in and year out for one.

Does BB get blamed for Bledsoe than? Because he was 5-13 before Brady came in. Also, he's a defensive coach.

He was in the Pro Bowl in 2004 and declined in 2005 because of his injury.

Not saying that Payton hasn't helped, because he has, but Shanahan was an offensive coach and he had issues after Elway. So it's not a given.

one thing all of them have in common is bad coaching/FOs minus jets. Even then, Rex has never been on offensive mind though. None of those teams have top offensive minded coaches that can somehow fit square pegs into round holes.

Does that mean we'll hit on every QB we pick, no because we never had to before. Do I feel confident that CSP/ML can pick an at least average QB? Yes.

half the teams in the league have capable QBs. Are we going to have a hard time finding one? Possibly. I never said it was going to be a crapshoot, but certain organizations have a better history of finding better offensive players than others. Up until a couple years ago, you could say we sucked drafting defensively as well. Some teams are just better in some departments

QBs are vastly important, but defense can win games with a mediocre offense. The past 3 years showed me that. Teams like Detroit are loaded offensively, but they can't win every game by outshooting opponents because of eventual turnovers (on offense) and bad defensive plays. Same with Dallas and a whole load of other teams with good QBs. Even Atlanta struggled last year with a horrible defense and above average Ryan. A defensive team like Arizona almost made the playoffs and had 10 wins. Arizona was #12, but #5 defensively in that division

Yeah, that's why I noted he was good. But he was not elite. Not even close. Matt Schaub is a 2-time pro bowler at this point.. Do you see him becoming elite in Oakland?? No way.

Payton is one of the best offensive minds in the league. He will find a way to turn another QB into a viable guy.

Cliff note.. I am aware BB is a defensive coach but IMO he is the greatest coach of all time and he knows football. He knows what he has to do to get all he can from a guy. Brady wouldn't have fallen to 199 if he had shown any flashes of a HOFer in college. He was molded from a nobody to become what he is.

I hope so too.
But whats puzzling/troubling is he has not been able to find a 2nd QB to groom yet.

I would also imagine that as he and Brees have grown together this offence is as complex as one can get. I would think any new off. for a new QB is going to be parred down dramatically for the short term.

I don't find it too trouble-some that we haven't found a 2nd QB yet. What's the need? Look at Mallett, he was groomed and now he's looking at the trading block. They just picked up Garoppolo as well.

Denver has Brock Osweiler, but we still haven't seen him get much action.

Indy not planning for life after Manning left them with a carousel of QBs and lucked out on..luck.

IF . . . and it's a big, capitalized "IF" . . . Payton sticks around after Brees is gone, I feel better about the situation (assuming the front office is intact). No matter what, though, you need more than just an "adequate" quarterback to make it to the Superbowl, imo, unless you get lucky.

If say, we draft a QB like Bro Wallace next year, we'll be fine

Honestly, I believe our offense would be a bottom 10 offense without Brees.

Ryan Griffin is the next QB in the post Brees era . Outstanding individual with talent. We signed him to the 53 to keep him here and out of St Louie. He will be our next great QB.

It's a QB driven league. Without an above average QB so many talented teams become immediately mediocre. I think Payton staying long term is way more important for us though...
