I found an older thread talking about the navonics platinum+ and it looks awesome. It's about $350 and covers the whole gulf coast. Is there any chip with similar detail and bottom contours that covers a smaller area?

My dad just bought some standard mapping chips for the lower Terrebonne area and they're pretty legit

I went on a chartered trip last week and he highly recommended the Navionics chip. Actually looked at them again today. Will be a future purchase.

Just shows the dept of the canals alittle better. Says it makes it a whole lot easier when trying to hide from the wind and find deep canals

Navionics chip is hands down best investment you can make on your boat!

I fish Dularge area, I ended up going with a Platnium + XL chip. same map as the XL3 just a limited area and for $175, I went with #635 which covers from Venice to texas.

Heres the one I have. It should be what your looking for.

Navionics chip didn't do shite for my Elite 5. Think I need a new GPS.

Where do you usually fish, Boom?

We fish out of Cocodrie often...

(like most every weekend)

Strongly consider a Standard Mapping ecard then.

Its simply a satellite photo superimposed over your map.

They work on all HDS-S.

Check out their website. I have the card and will try to answer any questions.

Standard mapping show depths like is sounds like navonics does?

Are navonics depths/contours legit?

I don't have a navionics card, so I can't really compare.

Are you looking for inshore depths?

I may be wrong, but I would be surprised if any resource was able to accurately advise inshore depths. (They just change too often, as in I noticed pretty some pretty decent changes from October to March, not to mention the tide changes.) But I could be wrong...

EDIT: No, the standard mapping does not show depths.

Check out this thread... it may prove my previous comment incorrect.

The numbers the Garmin blue chart that he has a screen shot of look pretty accurate.

(Still doesn't answer your navionics question though)

Tbooux, you mind shooting me an email about that chip you have? I'm looking for one too and have a couple of questions.

We fish out of Chauvin. The chip doesn't do much for the marsh in that area on the Elite 5.

I'm running card on an HDS5, I'll try and remember to take some actual screen shots next time I go out.

I like using the old satellite images on Google earth. Really shows the wetland loss in the Chauvin / Cocodrie area.
