Here's what he just said:

"I haven't met anyone in the league that likes it. Not one, scout, coach, anybody. I know we're getting great ratings and all that, but at the end of the day I don't think it's fair to the coaches and the evaluators and how hard they work. And you don't get the rookies in the building until two weeks later. I just don't think it's a good thing for the people involved at the grassroots level."

Welcome to the Roger Goodell NFL. War Mike Mayock.

Lovie got the memo.

They were talking about how they might have the draft in another city next year, and he said I don't care where we go as long as it is in April.

Everybody's been bitching about it. Mayock is on target. The only people in the league praising it are doing it on a ratings level, generates more interest, bigger audience, moved to May Sweeps, etc.. But the teams have been ready for two months and now they have less time to evaluate the players on the field.

None of day 1. A lot of day 2. Some of day 3. Been checking in to make sure I didn't miss the Saints picks.

Does the draft being in May lead to better ratings than in April? Or is it just because of the Manziel drama, etc. that ratings are up?

Didn't they HAVE to move the draft because of a scheduling conflict at Rockefeller Center?

April makes more sense. Mayock is the man.

Do you think all those yahoos that tuned in for the "drama" are going to be back next year to watch when there is no Johnny Football? I don't.

That's the excuse. I'm sure no other comparable buildings were available in Manhattan.

Also, I had planned to go to Dutchtown/St. Amant last night but it was rained out--or else I would have missed most of day 2 as well. Can't do shite in the yard today either. This whole weekend is very blah.

I feel like the draft used to be at like the beginning of April or mid at the latest. I don't get why they pushed it back so far.

The reason it was moved was simple...

The owners wanted more tv revenue and they picked a dead week as far as major sporting events. The NFLPA agreed to it also. Mayock is blowing smoke, what he is paid to do at times.

The ratings were bound to be better this year. The last few years had offensive linemen picked early instead of players like Clowney and Manziel.

Um, what? The draft had to move from ESPN to ESPN2 on Friday to switch to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
