The NFL drug policy is a fricking joke

Why is failing a drug test for marijuana grounds for a season long suspension? That is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. It is legal in the home states of both the defending NFC and AFC Champions. It is certainly not a performance enhancer.
I get that it is a rule and consequences come from breaking said rule, but it shouldn't be a rule in the first place. So sick of the money hungry NFL brass and their bullshite.

Blame the NFLPA
they agreed to this stuff. Obviously, they got something to give this.

Just because it's legal in two states doesn't mean you can show up to work with it in your system.
Normal people who fail drug tests at their jobs for alcohol or weed will more than likely be fired.
It's a rule and this dumbass already got busted once. He should have used his brain. But no, let's blame the NFL because we can't hold people breaking rules/laws accountable anymore. It's always the company's fault, cops fault, teachers fault, referees fault, etc.

Although I agree with your premise, what happens when all the players decide to get high before games and the quality of the NFL product takes a hit? People lose interest and the NFL will lose money so it "pays" for them to keep this rule intact.
Edit: And Josh Gordon is a serial pot smoker with a pea sized brain so if he didn't learn from the other 2 failed tests in the NFL or the 3 from college, then he shouldn't be allowed to play IMO if he continues it.

I get that he broke a rule.
The point is it shouldn't be a rule in the first place. How can marijuana be grouped in with amphetamines and steriods? It doesn't make any sense.

Beause you can't have players on the juice, high, drunk, etc. Why is this so hard to comprehend? Your system is supposed to be CLEAN.

Counterpoint, why isn't a grown man that is getting paid millions, unable to stop smoking weed, particularly after being caught and warned before with huge stakes on the line if he were to be caught again?

It's a private league. It's their rules.
Why do you hate capitalism?

I agree. I've never understood why college and pro teams test for narcotics. If drugs are affecting the guys performance, he won't play. Takes care of itself.

In 3 years the POS got run from Baylor and wound up in the Supplemental Draft.
Then he gets into the NFL and gets suspended after one year.
And now he's busted again after the next year.
Don't call this guy a victim. You can smoke weed and make it through drug tests, obviously, when you look at all the pro athletes who do it. If you flunk three times in three years, then you have some kind of addiction or problem and you need to seek help.

It is the offseason. None of that should matter.
You think players don't drink during the season? I see it all the time downtown.

Yeah, way to jump to conclusions.
I hate inane drug policies.

The stupidest thing I have ever heard was that an NFL player knew he'd get a Calvin Johnson type extension if he stopped smoking pot and still failed a piss test.

agreed 100%. America makes way too big a deal about weed.

The dude was a fricking idiot to smoke knowing he'd already been caught before. If I was the Browns, I'd be hesitant to give a moron like that a lot of money.
