my mom loves working in the yard, we thought this would be easier for her rather than draggging cords around

she probably wants gas powered

Yea, I've got the B&D 20V lithium combo pack. I have half an acre and I FREAKIN LOVE THEM!!!! No more dirty carb or priming the bulb!!!

the Ryobi with the battery packs aren't that bad. Gas is better but some women say it's "too heavy"
My MIL has the Ryobi and likes it.

If all she will need to do is trim slightly taller grass around landscaping or trees, it will probably work. If she gets into weed type stuff, she'll be frustrated with the lack of power.

I just got a battery Weedeater and I love it so far. Uses half the battery to do whole yard. I do wonder what it'll be like in a year or so if the battery still holds a charge.
Its a ryobi

My yard is small and i have a $50 B&D that does a surprisingly good job. No gas or oil and you don't need long pants and shirt and head gear to use it. The edging feature is money.
Don't expect to cut down trees or clear lots with it. It's strictly for yard work. Get an extra battery.

I hate them. For a smaller yard maybe not so bad, but in a bigger yard the battery doesn't even last for half the yard. Gas all the way.

Problem with battery powered weedeaters is that as they get older the packs do not hold enough charge. My mom has one that is a couple years old and has 2 battery packs. Each battery pack only lasts 5-10 min.
My gas powered weedeater is 12.4 pounds. I've seen some gas ones as light as 8.4 lbs. I would suggest the light gas powered weedeater for females.
