Help identify this fish?

This pic was sent to me by a friend asking for help with identifying the type of fish. It was caught in a private pond in rural Tuscaloosa County. My initial thought was a rock bass, but the dorsal fin was throwing me off a bit. I knew you folks would know... so here you go:

Usually. Depends on who is saying "google eye" though.

Yes. The main identifying feature is the lines radiating from the eye.

If you can't ID a goggle eye, I doubt knot tying is your expertise either.
