The 2012 consulate attack and accusations of a White House cover-up are catnip for grassroots donors and activists. And Benghazi — and the select committee assigned to investigate it — is a key part of the GOP fundraising and mobilization strategy. This week, the National Republican Congressional Committee rolled out a new fundraising campaign called “Benghazi Watchdogs” — an effort by the aiming to raise money off Gowdy’s new position. Publicly available domain registration data shows that the site was registered Tuesday

quote:

Other fundraising solicitations about Benghazi include:

•A fundraising page from the NRCC with a photo of Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, accompanied by big bold text proclaiming: “Benghazi was a coverup. Demand answers.” — and asking for donations of up to $500.

• A May 2 blog post from the National Republican Senatorial Committee titled “Dude, You’re Being Lied To About Benghazi.” The post was in response to former White House spokesman Tommy Vietor’s appearance on Fox News last week where he used the line “Dude, that was like two years ago.” It concludes: “Americans deserve the truth about Benghazi and it’s clear Democrats will not give it to them. Donate today and elect a Republican Senate majority.”

•A May email blast from the conservative nonprofit Special Ops OPSEC Education Fund that asks for an “immediate contribution” of $25, $50, $100 or more to “hold Obama and Hillary’s feet to the fire until justice is done.”

•A January email from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in the aftermath of the State of the Union noting that Obama “failed to mention Benghazi, the IRS, or the NSA” and asking for donations.

• A John Bolton PAC email from April accused Obama, Clinton and former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta of refusing to take responsibility for “leaving Americans to die at the hands of terrorists.”

•An email from Senate candidate Joe Miller saying that there is “strong evidence that senior administration officials crafted a false narrative for purely political purposes.”

•An email this week from Rep. Scott Rigell’s (R-Va.) campaign asking for “$5, $10, $20, or $50 to help keep him in Congress and hold the Administration accountable” that also asks “Why didn’t the military respond to the events in Benghazi Were there even military assets in the region available? If not, why not? Who made the decision not to send support? House Republicans are committed to finding out the truth about Benghazi.”

•An email from House candidate Andy Tobin accusing Obama of “covering up vital information about what happened that night” and asking for donations.

• Conservative pundits and former politicians like Mike Huckabee, Allen West and others have sent emails to their lists, according to the liberal watchdog group Media Matters.

I've posted this for those who suggest this is some sort of pious "quest for the truth". It's clearly all political.

Democrats fundraised off of Obamacare. I guess that means they didn't think it was really important they just wanted to make a cash grab.

Meh, I don't think it ALL is political... But def a good bit of it is.

Same as the dipshits threatening not to increase the national debt and then caving...

Its fricking sad that all our politicians are worried about it power. Another reason I would love to run for office and blow up their whole scheme.

Sometimes I think this, then I think about how I would have to ask people for money...then feel like I owe them favors. It makes me want to take a shower.

How many Democrat-led anti gun fundraisers were held after Sandy Hook?

Yep, and add to it that almost every House Republican expressed interest in being on the committee. It's a political opportunity too hard to turn down.

If I were a GOP consultant, I'd stay with Benghazi though the midterms, then drop it like a hot potato. It will help with fundraising and it will get people out to vote later this year.. but I think it will backfire for the general election in 2016. There aren't any independents or moderates that are turned on by this.

frick that shite... I wouldn't owe anyone anything. You give me to get to Washington knowing what I am going to do. If you don't like it, don't donate.

I've got no problem being a 1 and done representative as long as that 1 makes waves and raises eyebrows. I don't need to have power or be in the lime light.

Wow.....I can't believe a political party would use issues the base is concerned about to raise money.

I think that will depend on what's uncovered. If there is a smoking gun (no pun), they'ld best hump that beast for all it's worth.

Just be consistent. Find me a pure pious program or law free from "politics" that you have supported.

Not if Hilliary runs. State dept has already taken a lot of blame from the other congressional investigations. Their preparedness, or lack thereof is HUGE in those people dying...The cover-up theory is totally separate, but Hilliary has already got a lot of blame on her hands for the situation in the first place. No looking past that in 2016 if she runs, in fact Benghazi might be her only memorable feat as SOS...So what qualifies her for the Presidency....Benghazi..

This must be the new talking point being fed to the ignorant. I would imagine the op doesn't think Obamacare, gun control, and "women's rights" are just money grabs and political,,,,but not really important to dems.

How some of you fall for these silly talking points amazes me. I will enjoy watching the thread to see who raises their hand to join a want as one of the ignorant.

this always happens. anytime the GOP expresses concern over a topic that is extremely damaging for the Dems, they immediately rush out and say its all for political gain and they don't really care.

but its completely ok for them to use an incident like Sandy Hook to push their agenda
