Doesn't seem like the best idea...

Agreed, unless they have a path that is better suited for them. Otherwise, pretty easy for them to get injured if not careful.

Nurse I'll be going through Arizona from top to bottom. Staying a few nights in Sedona then heading down to Tucson.

I have seen people do it with pretty young kids, so it is doable. I would strongly suggest a good pair of water shoes, especially something with some toe protection. You are going to slip and hit bang your toes more than once. Neoprene socks would also be a worthy investment.

I did it when I was probably 12 or 13. Had 6 year old little brother and 10 year old little sister with us. My dad brought a backpack with beer. He would stash a few every mile or so in the icy water so they would be could when he picked them up on the way back.

The hike is obviously IN the river, so shoes accordingly. The trails branch off of the main river hike and each one offers a bit different challenge. Some turn into 15 foot rock climbs to get up to the next level, and most are smooth rocks with little holds. It's a damn maze, we didn't have a map...so finding spots you see in photos is tough.

The sun, even though it's hot as frick everywhere else in Zion, is hit or miss in the river. I wouldn't wear cotton at all, I'd stick with capilene or the like. Enjoy the drive in as much as the hike, look for climbers on the big walls. Bring some binoculars so y'all can watch...it's pretty damn badass that people are driven to climb them.

Tombstone isn't too too far from Tucson and neither is Kartchner Caverns(must go to that....awesome caves that are well protected and preserved).

Mt Lemmon near Tucson is cool as well. But the city itself....not so much.

Tucson because staying anywhere around tombstone looked like something out of the Dusk Till Dawn movie.

I was about to say they do have some really nice resorts there. That one looks nice. Never been.

I lived in Tucson for 3 months so I had a different experience.

Nothing to add that hasn't been said, I saw kids in there while I was there so people definitely do it with small kids. Jealous.

Page WHOGEAUX. He and another buddy of mine went two years ago. He can give you all the details of Zion, including The Narrows.

Is pretty much the armpit of AZ. Unless you are at a resort.

And tacky looking but hey the wife wants to see it and I'm a big doc Holliday fan so what the hell. This is the home stretch of the trip. We start out in Durango CO then head to sands hollow golf resort by Zion then off to Vegas for a few nights. Kayak black canyon while we're there. Head to Grand Canyon via Route 66 then Sedona.
