When do you find out his aunt molested him? In the flashbacks during the movie its so vague he mentions it to Emma Watson that his Aunt had been "sexually abused" but they still don't hint at it being a possibility that thats what his aunt did to him. It is shitty that you don't find out about it until the last 10 minutes of the movie when he and Emma Watson kiss and she touches his thigh. Which doesn't make much sense since he never freaked out before while making out with the other chick. Also it doesn't make sense that when he never freaked out while making out with the other chick.
Also is getting molested that the only thing he's struggling with during his suicide attempt or is he struggling with his best friend killing himself too? In the movie he only mentions it once and it never gets revisited.

I'd add a spoiler tag to this. That's a pretty major one in the first sentence

I think it is a mixture of both.

He wants to kill himself because he wished that his aunt would die.

You don't find out about Aunt Helen until the epilogue. You'll find subtle hints of the abuse in a reread.

I need to go back and rewatch this. It's so depressing though.

Kind of but not really

I didn't like the fact that payoff was so short and came at the very end, I figured they did that for the film because it felt like it dragged on and he starts having more and more flashbacks but they don't actually advance the story. I figure some stuff had to getting lost from the book

Love that movie, though I cry every time I watch it. Just like Good Will Hunting - gets me every time.
