Well that would give you chance at a few more wins. But that's just silly. Why would you want an enjoyable rivalry to be put in hold, fake hatred? Seems like if we keep the 3 pt lead it wouldn't even matter. I get Norwich maybe saying something but Fulham and Cardiff just seem pathetic in this.

Generally pretty serious.

It happened to QPR a few years back when they ran right through the nPower Championship League.

Their point deduction would have put them in 6th and still in the playoffs, but ultimately the league overturned it. The FA is pretty quick about these things though. They usually get right down to it.

Why was the player ineligible in the first place?

Norwich must be promising huge kick-backs to Cardiff and Fulham.

Ji played in three other league fixtures – against Fulham, Crystal Palace and Manchester United. Sunderland lost all of them, which was one of the factors in the league's decision-making, along with the fact that the club had reported their own mistake at the first opportunity. Ji needed international clearance because he had been on loan at Augsburg. Liz Coley, Sunderland's secretary, left her position shortly after the error came to light.

Yeah I read the article too, but it doesn't say what he did to be ineligible. Was it having a pre contract with Dortmund? Looks like he was on Sunderland since 2011.

Eta: the loan part is strange. The guy has been licensed by the league for 3 years prior.

Yeah, uh, English football fans do not care if annual rivalry matches aren't played due to the opposition getting relegated.

Good to know.

I wouldn't care if DS was relegated to the SEC rant if we're being completely forthright.

Yeah I couldn't find any other articles further clarifying it. I was almost wondering if this journalist was trying to manufacture some drama here.

As the board's resident expert on points deductions and relegation...i predict nothing comes of this.

Just a hail mary from the clubs going down.

Nothing will come of it, the FA are happy to deduct lower league teams points with this issue but they wont have the bottle to potentially relegate a team with one.
Having said that, they should, he was ineligible and a precedent has been set of points deductions for it.

Seems like poyet even thought southhampton Should've gotten the win. They just said on Nbc that it was essentially a self reported clerical error which is likely why the league didn't punish it further. I'd like to get another win and Create enough space that it really isn't an issue regardless.
