Most efficient use of Amex points - not airfare or hotels

It's not getting amex gift cards! They screw you with those. If not travel (always my favorite) you can link your amex to your amazon account and pay for anything on amazon with points. Not sure what the exchange rate is right now.

Gift cards to Zappos and Brooks Brothers are the best deals for things that I actually use.
$50 per 5000pts = 1%
Most other offers fall well below that.

My Amex you get the best bang for your buck with travel deals. It's something like 7,500 points = $100 towards anything travel related, whereas gift cards and other purchases it's like 10,000 points = $100.
I just payed off $500 worth of ski passes in Whistler with my Amex points. I was pretty excited about that as that was my biggest expense on the trip.
